I know this sounds like I'm retarded but I am in love with the lines of the e30 M3 and the Datsun 510. In my judgement they are pretty similar looking. Old school big boxy sedans. If I had enough money I'd get an M3 but they are too expensive and rare and 510s are extremely difficult to find (at least on the East coast) and those you can find are usually reallly messed up.

So I'm looking for ideas of cars that have the same general look/style, are old school, and aren't super rare/expensive.

Well, you can make a non-M3 E30 BMW look pretty good. It won't have the flared fenders, and the rear window and C-pillars will look different, but you can buy the wing and front bumper/splitter (actually, the flares too, but that's more extensive and expensive) Buy a 325is and go at it, the BMW inline-6's are great motors.

 

i feel the same way you do about the lines on 510s and e30 M3's. classic, beautiful and simple lines.

here in California, we can find 510s pretty easy. at the moment, we have three of them. my advice is to check ebay, there's always a few for sale and also http://www.dimequarterly.com has a nice classifieds section.

I like the 510... but as you said they do have similar lines. I just like the old school jdm style of the 510, you could make it pimp beyond belief.

 

As the guy said above, a non M3 E30 can be made to look very mean and you can buy them fairly cheap.

I would never sell a e30 M3

 

Even if you were to find a good condition / priced E30, your still going to pay out the *** for insurance for that car. I would dig around for a 510 on Ebay or something.
