deciding on engines
at the end of the winter, i should have around 2k to spend, so far i just got my std hatch dropped on kyb gr-2's, short ram air from autozone, with the 2 mm exhaust pipe.
dunno whether to do b16 or d15b vtec, if i go with b16 im gonna be short on a lot of tools and such to do the swap, that and the mpfi, obd1 and vtec wiring (but thats where rywire comes in
) with the shift linkage, axles, lsd tranny, clutch, mounts.
or i go the d15b route which will cost like 1k for everything cuz i need the si tranny with an lsd, and its a direct bolt in besides the mpfi and obd1 and vtec but i can get all the wiring from rywire anyway, but what should i do...
but either way, im still gonna be squealing with my 2 mm exhaust piping and 13" donuts
right now my mind is set on beating my friends f*king jeep, and my other friends z24 cavalier, and if im gonna be spending a thousand or so, im thiinking i might as well go allout with everything i can get, so i dunno
and im guessing you guys are gonna be asking me for my goals, i wanna do 12's-13's eventually but not yet, and its going to be a daily driver, only car i got to drive to school, but i also got autos class at a tech in january, so i could probly stash my car there to do the swap since its already got the hoists and shitloads of tools, with teachers there that could help me
for the d15b, yea i know i could build it to be faster than a b16 for cheaper than a b16, and someone said that if i build it, put a turbo/supercharger/nitrous in there, i could be looking at 12's, but im guessing thats its max power, do any of these engines have get up and go power after like 70 ?
thx for reading my long *** post

First, Z24s only have 140-150 HP. AND they're heavy. They're ******* slow. B16 can be done for like $2100 without the LSD tranny, and are capable of running 14s. No Z24 can break out of the 16s. It just doesn't happen.
Secondly, I don't inderstand how that jeep (which I understand is an inline 6 from other posts??) can be fast.
Thirdly, it takes my sunfire about a minute and 15 seconds to hit 100, AND it topped at 103 drag limited. It took my civic 20 seconds and I shut it down at 115 because I was coming up to traffic on the interstate. The power after 70 is decent with my DOHC ZC. The power after 95 is what surprised me. It just kept wanting to go higher. 4th gear pulls pretty hard.
GM just announced 30,000 layoffs today. It reflects on how ******* shitty their cars are.
I did my DOHC ZC swap for $1000 not including ecu. D15 isnt much more, but ZC was easier due to the fact that I did not have to wire up vtec.
p.s. I held even to a Z24 during my clutch break-in, and I stayed within the rules of the break-in. There was no launch, I did not exceed 5000 RPM or 3/4 throttle, and I shifted really smooth. It was no contest I would have eaten his *** after break-in. The guy thought he was the **** because his car was lowered and looked better than mine, and because he had his girlfriend in the passengers seat.

i dont know, ive ridden in it a lot, and when he gets on it from off the line, it doesnt seem fast, the speedo goes to 85, but hes gotten it to like 95. but everytime i drag him, i take him right until i shift into 2nd then he just flies by me, im also peeling out a expletive load when im launching, stock 13's with stock clutch, 4 speed tranny isnt gonna go that far. ive looked up his times, it sais his jeep should only run like 17's, and std's also run 17's. also for intake, are you supposed to notice a slight change in more power, different sound or anything?? i havent noticed 1 change since i put on short ram air from auto zone
the last time i was in the z24 which was like a year ago, he got it to 50 in like 5 seconds, and he said he wasnt trying, on the freeway he was crusing at 70, then he got on it and hit 100 within like 10 seconds, so i dunno. (maybe that **** isnt stock)
if i do go d15b, i know for a fact im gonna want lots more power, and besides internals, the only other thing is forced induction, and i have no idea how to install a turbo/supercharger/nitrous and its gonna cost a couple hundred in labor to do that. and i dont know much about d series, which is why im kinda hesitating on going that route. just the thought of ls vtec or super/turbocharged b16 sounds so much better than a boosted sohc d15b vtec

When my civic had 70HP, I ran a better time than my 2001 sunfire. Now that I pretty much doubled my horsepower its a slaughter; it's not even a race. A good driver (not me) can get a 130HP civic/crx down the track in like 15.3-15.6 seconds. You'll kill that jeep.
Z24's arent fast. It might have seemed fast, but they won't hold up to 130HP in a 2100lb car. Those cars weigh over 2700 pounds
o yea. Back when I had my 70HP engine, I had an intake, but it made very little noise. The downpipe was so small that I could hear my intake over my 2.5" exhaust. In a 70HP car you won't be able to notice a thing.
I got beat by minivans and stuff before my swap. It didn't take much. You'll kick the **** out of that jeep

well thx for the confidence, and ya lol kinda forgot that all these bolt ons arent gonna do me much good with 2mm exhaust piping, but heh thx for the input guys, appreciate it
$1k into a ghetto turbo kit would get you easily 150whp untuned, putting you past most NA's with your STD. My bro's winter beater with a mpfi d15b2 & 5spd (my old motor/trans) actually feels fast, close to my d16z6 sedan. For 2k you could do a lot with turbo, if nothing else get a d16, p29 ZC pistons, and bolt ons for less cash & more power than a stock B16.
