PR4 = good, P28 = car runs like shit...
Hi,
I am unable to search because the "Search server is down" at the moment. I just finished my B20/VTEC engine, and it runs so smooth and feels so good when I run it with the PR4 (but has no VTEC). When I plug in the P28, the car runs like ****? Why is that? It also throws up a CEL. I don't know exactly how to check for which CEL it is, but I have been hacking my way through this head swap with very little information.
Any one else had this problem? How did you resolve it?
Thank you for any information you can provide!

So you did a B20VTEC swap yourself without actually knowing what you're doing.. I would suggest some dyno tuning on the P28 or take it to someone who does because it sounds like its about to explode.

Exactly if it's a stock P28 your car will run like crap for sure...get it chipped.

Ha ha,
No, it's not about to explode, I have worked with many cars, and I took my time, and I didn't waste my time with crappy inexpensive parts. It actually runs so damn nice with the PR4, but I'm sure there is something I need to do to make the CEL go away. I hear quite a few people talking about running a chipped ECU (P28). Any information on exactly to do for chipping? Should I chip it myself (pgmfi.org), or do I need to go with a Hondata? I am looking for someone who has been in this situation.
Thanks.

eh, dont have any experience with your swap, but if i were you sicne you have no experrince in chipping ecu's i would get a pro to do it . . . . i wouldnt risk fucknig somthing up . . . after you get it chipped, head over to a dyno and tune it.
i would just go ahead with a s200 or s300 honda unit mated to your p28
tunability will be much better with the hondata software as opposed to another piggy-back unit like vafc
i ran vafc and hondata s200......and i love the hondata unit for what it does and its price...

Stock P28's will not run DOHC engines. You can either buy one that already chipped or get it chipped. I think uberdata or hondata would be a nice addition to your swap since you could get it tuned and have a stronger and safer motor.
Yeah, the S300 looks so friggen nice, program on the fly with USB. Full throttle shifting, and oh yeah, $600!!!
yes get the p28 chipped, don't do it yourself if you don't have experience or one to practice on and waste. try phearble.net, i went through them mainly cuz i suck and soldering, did a real nice clean job, and set me up with a real nice base map based on my engine and mods, i still need to dyno tune it, but the base map they set me up with is working great for the time being
oh jesus u tried running a stock p28 in your b20/vteC?
Christ man.. thats a 92-95 civic SI/EX ecu.. single cam
Get the p28 chipped to run DOHC VTEC.. u can delete the Knock sensor and blah..
set vtec at whatever RPM u want, REDLINE at what u want.. and So on..
Im running a chipped p28 in my h22 ek, no EGR , SIngle intakemanifold also.. vtec is like at 5.8k redline.. dont know.. ive been shifting at 8k for safety.. since its a stock h22 block/head

man the p28 is garbage. i did that mistake on my lsvtec in my hatch. car ran like poop. i put a 94-95 gs-r enu and i was booging. p.s is ur vtec hoocked up. and is it dun correctly.
p.s to read your check engine light- under the glove box thier a blue or green plug located to your right. it has 2 wires connected 2 it. i take that plug get a piece of wire, attatch it 2 the plug put the car in acc. mode and vwalla read the codes.

Yeah a P28 is designed to run a D16Z6...you need to have it chipped and use a program for a B-series DOHC VTEC motor. Your best bet is to get it chipped and run Hondata/Uberdata and have it tuned for your exact motor.
