Default Component or coax?

I have a set of 4x6 in my doors right now, i'm gonna switch them out for a 6.5" set. I was wondering what the main difference is between component and coax speakers, i was wondering if there is a large SQ difference between the two or if it wouldn't be worth the extra cash for components?

are they worth 2x the price of coax?

4x6 speakers in my opinion are absolutly worthless. Cerwin vega made a 4x6 plate back in the day that would fit in a 4x6 spot however it was a plate witha 4'' driver and a seperate tweeter. Those were okay. A component set is addding a seperate x over. With a component set you can aim the tweeters and place them where ever you want. Basicly better sound. Also alot of the x over have circuitry to prevent you from blowing your tweets.

I already have the 4x6 infinity reference series, i wanna upgrade to a round speaker but unsure of the value involved.

THe coax are 150 and the component 300
so are the components in this case worth twice the price? or will i be happy with jsut coax

i'm staying with infinity just wnated some advice from some more experience people.

I personaly would never replace any oval speaker with another oval speaker. I think definatly the components are worth it and if you are or plan on amping them the differance will be dramatic.

well the 4x6 infinity are amped already, i'm switching to a 6.5 whether component or coax, so since they're amped is it worth twice the money for component set?

I think so, but I suppose it s all about what you can afford. If you got the extra doe pony up n get the components

The biggest diff. I can see between the 2 is power handling the 2way is 60W or 180W peak on the component set there is a misprint it should read 70W or 270W peak, and the component set has a 1.5" tweeter and the coax is a 1" tweeter, the components will have a better and off board x-over, here is something else the think about the MSRP for the REF6010cs is $229.95 http://www.infinitysystems.com/carau...er=REF&Cat=COS
and for the REF6012i it's $119.95 http://www.infinitysystems.com/carau...er=REF&Cat=MEL
Even though that is US $ you may be able to do better.

For the components I would recommend an off board amp. and although the components should sound better, [assuming the install is done properly] the install will be more complicated, [tweeter location and wiring].

As for the components being worth 2x as much, that would entirely be up to you to decide, if you can listen to them, [side by side] do the components sound that much better that you would spend 2x as much. 94
