94/97 accord with a idle way off
I have a 94 accord with some a non-vtech 97 engine. After replacing my ignition coil my idle speed jumped up to 1800 to 2000 RPM, I have replaced the MAP sensor and checked all vacum lines. I have also tried adjusting the tension on my throatal cable(not sure if thats the name of the part or not) and I have adjusted the screw that my Haynes book says is for the idle speed. I have been through my book about a million times and I'm just totaly out of ideas. I'm very new to working on cars but because of this thing I have been learning alot I have had to replace distributer cap and button wires, plugs, heat sensors, and a few other sensors I don't remember the name of. This car used to be owned by a "MASTER" machanic who was in the process of turnning this into a race car so there are alot of after market parts in this that I don't know about. Please help if you guys can.
is your cold idle bad or warm idle, or both?
cold idle is controlled by the Fast Idle Thermo Valve located underneath the throttlebody. take this off, 3 10mm bolts. Then take off the shield on it (two screws, or 8mm heads) and crank it down some. You can search for some pictures here, search fitv. But if it is loose, it will affect all driving, not just cold idle. Also one clamped coolant hose to remove.
warm idle could be Idle Air Control Valve, or iacv. This could just need to be cleaned or could be bad. If cleanable, use brake cleener once you remove the iacv from the back on the intake manifold towards the throttle body. also two clamped coolant hoses.
But judging by the high range of your idle im thinking FITV. Give it a shot and let me know.

I will try that this weekend also not sure if this has anything to do with it but in order to start my car I have to have the driver side door open! I'm no kidding makes me think of the pimp my ride that had the kid that when he honked his horn his windsheld wiper would go.
Thank you so much for the help I will let you know what happens
