hey guys i have a 96 honda civic ex coupe and recently a lot of times when i start my car its been shaking really bad, even at idle! (also, the engine light just turned on about the same time this started happening.) when driving, it continues to shake when i'm going in the low 20s but once i get above 25 mph, (it's an automatic, but i think once it gets to a particular gear) the shaking goes away. i figured that it was just the spark plugs, cap, and rotor so i replaced all those today but i'm still having the same problem. with the engine light i think it might be the O2 sensor, but with the shaking i have no idea whatsoever. please help!!!

 

fuel injector? turn the car on. pull out spark boot 1... shakes worse? put back in, take out spark boot 2, shakes worse? put back in. continue. When you find that one of the spark boots you take out doesnt affect the shaking (it stays the same) the problem is in that cylinder. (if a particular cylinder has a problem)

 

Would this be the only possibility?

 

heres a thought... find out the code is for..

 

my car shakes as well when i start it and the rpm jumps between 2000-2200 rpm maybe
and when the engine's tepm reachs half the shaking stops but the rpm is still high around 2000 rpm..
and if I switch off the car and then start it again the rpm falls to 1200 rpm maybe and when i start driving the car and then stop on the trafic or so you can see it @ 2000 rpm
I dunno why! I pulled out the spark boots one by one and the shaking got worse, so that means there is nothing wrong in the cylinders.

did anybody face such a problem before?!

yes

 

idle air control valve...

theyre a few bucks at autozone...
easy to install too.
someone at autozone should even be able to help you if you dont know how.
