Interchangeable parts for a Honda VTR1000F Superhawk
I have a '98 Superhawk and would like to upgrade the suspension, brakes, etc. Does anybody know which, if any, parts from the CBR or RC/SP line will fit the Superhawk?
What about shocks?

Have you tried superhawkforums? They've got a wealth of information there.
From what I remember, an RC51 front end will swap onto the SHawk. So will a CBR 900/929/954 front end. Those will give you the least amount headache. Depending on what kind of riding you plan to do with the SuperHawk, you may want to consider upgrading the stock springs and adding Race Tech's Gold Valves (or, if you're brave enough, shaving the step on the fork).
There's not much out there that can be swapped for the shock. An upgraded spring will help a lot. If you've got the money, then an aftermarket unit is a good option. Fox used to make a Twin Clicker for the SHawk, but has since stopped. You may be able to find a used one off eBay or elsewhere, but be forewarned that a lot of SHawk owners are usually looking for those parts too.
For braking, calipers from the F4i will fit with a small amount of dremel-action. I believe the GSXR-calipers (6pot) are one of the best upgrades, along with a RC or 929/954 master cylinder. Insta-stoppies. Something less intense can be had from upgraded SS lines and better pads.
A set of pipes and proper jetting will do wonders for your bike. The stock cans are immensely heavy. A fork brace supposedly helps keep the forks from flexing too much.
My mods:
- Race Tech 1.0kg/mm fork springs
- (CBR) F2 Heli bars
- MiG slip-on exhaust
- ZG DB windscreen
- R6 mirrors (much better than the stock units)
Oh, and congrats on the SuperHawk! I love mine more than almost any other bike I've ridden (except for a 996...but the SHawk has more humane ergos).

rc51 cams are the same. f3 front rotors are the same... there's a few other things. my mods:
erion full racing exhaust
stage 3 jet kit
dbl bubble tinted windscreen
corbin seat
rear seat cowl
I plan on doing ss brake lines, some type of brake upgrade all around (not sure), some type of grips other then stock, k&N, thinking of doing the r6 mirrors, undertail eventually as mine has a couple small cracks... and maybe if I'm feeling lively stage 1 rc51 cams with some head work

How do you like the Corbin seat? I had planned on getting one, but figured the money could be better spent elsewhere. After my first 100+ mile day, I'm ready for a Corbin (or Sargent).
For brakes, I highly suggest the SS lines and upgraded pads. They made a world of difference on my SuperHawk. The frankenbrakes offer higher braking limits/ability, but are a bit of overkill. But then again, it's fun to play with toys.

corbin is nice. i have nothing to compare it to though since i never rode on a stocker. I would suggest the leather one instead of the nylon like I have... looks nicer imho and probably a little more comfortable... I def will get ss brakes sometime, brake pads and upgraded rotors. The master cylinder might get upgraded as well. not really sure about the rest of the suspension bits yet...

We can trade for a little bit. You can try out my stock seat and R6 mirrors, and I'll try out your Corbin seat.
I think the suspension, as well as the brakes, are one of the first upgrades any SHawk owner should perform. The stock suspension (IIRC) has springs rated at .5 kg/mm. That's very soft. Good for commuting, but lacking for any spirited riding. I should have done Gold Valves while I had my forks out, but I didn't have enough money at the time.

one thing i noticed is I can't bleed the rear brakes... least without removing the exhaust and none of my adapters fit the bleed valve.... this sucks... I'll have to see about the suspension. I was quite comfortable today with flying down the mountain at 85-90. haven't taken it to any real super twisty roads yet...

hey guys, when talk goes to replacing brake lines, i'm reminded of the time i did it. at that time, i bought some speed bleeders which attach to the brake caliper bleed nipple. they worked great and saved a lot of time and money. they speed up the process of bleeding air out of the new brake fluid.
** i don't work for them or have any vested interest in the company. just want to share a convenient thing i used!**

thanks for that info. I hate having to take it to a shop to do work. Much rather do it on my own. oh and from what I'm reading 01-02 gixxer 6-pot breaks are a direct bolt on. Best way is to put a 929 front end on though and you get bigger disks so the calipers fit a little better. A lot of people recommend upgrading to a bigger bore MC too.
