SOHC ZC passing CA smog?!
Hey all, I've searched and all I could really find were DOHC/B-series swaps trying to pass smog, but I was wondering how difficult/has anyone passed CA smog with a SOHC ZC motor? If so, how did you do it/how would you do it (any tricks/products/anything at all)? Thanks ahead of time.
I don't know if they can be BAR'd, but if you take it for an emissions test, and they don't read the block stamp, and you pass, then you've just passed smog with a SOHC ZC
Thanks for the quick replies. So I take it SOHC ZC engines don't produce much emission? If so, that's good news for me. I was getting panicked, because I dropped the money to import my civic, and I finally got it temp registered

non-Vtec I believe. My engine stamp just says "ZC," and it's an SOHC. There were some numbers under the "ZC" designation as well, but I'll see tomorrow morn'. I'm going to take my car to smog tomorrow so crossing my fingers that it'll pass.

I was thinking of doing the ZC swap but was worried about emissions as well. I have 2 friends who couldn't get their ZCs to pass unless they changed the cat out to a new one everytime they smog. Would swapping out the intake man and the tb possibly eliminate the need to do this everytime?
Plus I have no idea if they swapped those parts out or did a straight drop in

The SOHC ZC is really just a D16A6 variant. It really looks no different from that particular motor. As long as you are running it with a USDM intake manifold, throttle body, and vacuum line configuration, your setup will not be questioned by a smog test station. They will think it is just a stock SI motor. So unlike a DOHC ZC or B-series swap, you will pass visual with no problems. As far as the tailpipe test, it should pass provided there are no problems.

i pass smog all the time, sohc zc non-vtec, d16a6 manifold, cat(passed twice with the same one) and Aem Cold air intake....passed with flying colors....there only problem i ever had was the first time i smogged it, my car was ideing to high....they said it was my timing, but i jus adjusted that lil air/idle contriol screw on the throttle body......as to why they say u r runing to lean at high rpm i duno....how high r they going? arent they suppoesd to jus run it at 15mph, then 25mph? i think the highest rpm the guy hit with mine was 3000 if that?
