I need help with wheels!
This is my first post so I do believe that there will be a certain amount of hazing so do your worst but please do help me afterwards. I own a 2005 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl. and I love it to death. My next project is purchasing rims for it. After doing a lot of research I have come to this conclusion. I dont know what the hell I am doing and that is why I am asking some professional tuners for help. On the car now are 16x6 with 144 (5) bolt pattern at a 38 offset (or in other words stock). I thought at one time I wanted to upgrade to a larger wheel (17) which will bring it to a 17x7 144 and who knows what offset. I only have one color I want GLOSS BLACK WITH POLISHED LIP, which are easy to find in 17's but not so in OEM 16's. So my question is will 17 affect the sterring/suspension/driving conditions so much to where it will essentaly tear up my vehicle or should I try my best to stick with stock numbers to keep the car's settings in tune with Honda;s engeneering? (By the way, If you know of some good sites/pics for these wheels, PLEASE let me know.) Thanks ---Phantom

welcome to HT.
good that you have found the general info's most don't find. big plus for you.
but i guess you havn't noticed the EX models and HFP[Honda Factory Performance] packages come with 17x7 wheels from factory.
look into HFP wheels, they are the color you want with 5 spokes, but no polished lips.
i think they are one of the best looking wheels from factory, and it spanks most of wheel designs IMO.
and plus, it's a OEM fitment, so no worry here, i believe the 17's from honda are 43+mm offset, but no need to worry if you gona get the HFP wheels.
here is the wheel i am talking about.

i know these are on civic's but they do fit on accord's.

True that-
EX does come with 17x7 but that is only on the V-6 models and I dont see why. The only way I can comprehend this is that (A) V-6 models come with different suspension and (B) if you do upgrade to the HPF package on the Accord model the package already includes the HPF type suspension - ergo - is capable of handling the larger size wheel. But also to keep in mind, I wont be changing suspension for quite some time (1 to 3 years) and I only have the 4 cyl which, right now, does ok but before I do any suspension mods engine will come first. But thats a different story. Leving the engine and tranny as is, I believe, now correct me if I am wrong, would be like the difference between a 12 pound tukey verses a 10 pound, not much difference but a little more to go around though. I just dont want to take the chance of bogging down what I dont already have, engine wise and steering suspension wise. Tell me what you know.....
Phantomaccord
P.S. Thanks for the compliment-I am very cautious and caring with my car (being a honda fanatic). And always check the book about specs and such. How else will you "know" your car if you cant work on it. Only thing that sucks is that if I was to die - I couldnt take it to heaven but I am sure god would say I did a great job.

to answer
A - same but different spring rate, doesn't make much difference
B - suspension has nothing to do with wheel fitment, well it does, but it's all down to your wheel housing and base.
now being said that, accords are capeable of holding up to 19 inche wheels from models from 98+ that I've seen[so that makes 6th gen and 7th gen]
when you upgrade your wheels, make sure to stay with in the same range of dimeter of the OEM wheel size. if you wonder, there is a link in my sig for your calculation.
and as far as handling and car's ability, you don't see a change in it.
but it will have sharper responses to your turns because you have less side walls on your tires = less roll.
wheels is just a simple way of changing the looks of your car.
but also is a performance upgrade for bigger brake kits and light weight most of parts.
just stay with the same diameter and you'll be golden.
this is just what I go by.
Control > Power > Looks
what is the point of all the power if you can't contol and put it down on the road to go fast?
just my theory.
good luck now.

So-
In taking in all things into account- this is the conclusion I can make--
#1 Wheels must be 5 lug 114.3 (Duh)
#2 17 inch wheels will be acceptable such as the tires scale down a bit (205/60/16) to a (205/50/17) or something acceptable like that.
#3 Offset should match like the 38 to 42 or something like that
Does this sound correct??
