Default emergency brake handle goes up too high and wont hold the car in place

I have a 98 Accord ex with 90K miles. It is a manual transmission.

The handle comes way up more than usual. When parked on an incline, it wont hold the car in place like it use to.

any ideas? Thank you for your time.

if the brakes are working fine on the car otherwise, most likely the ebrake calble needs to be tightened. not sure on a 6th gen, but on a 5th, you remove the center counsole (like 4-5 bolts), and then tighten the line down using a wrench. very simple procedure.

yes,

check your rear brake linings 1ST... mebbe they are wearing down, that's why it's (the parking brake handle) progressively getting higher as your linings are wearing thin...

then go w/ fw's advice.

post an update, thanks!

i know on 5th gens you can open the lid and take out the cover on the bottom of the inside. it looks like a big battery cover for a cd player. when you open it up you can see the cable.

it's inside of the box where you place your right arm when you are not shifting(the dual level storage bin), there's a little slot you can jam a flathead in and pull it out.

on disc rear brake, counts the clicks, the normal number of click to reach full stop is 7. for drum rear brakes, it's 6.

it most likely that you'll need to adjust the cable.
