ARGGGH!!! Stoopid drum brakes
I've done front disc brakes on my integra b4 they were stolen... and I need to change my rear brake pads...
But I don't even know how drum brakes really work... and i've searched here before I made this post, but there aren't enough detailed information.
Can anybody send me detailed information along with PICTURES? It's generally difficult for me to get what people are saying without pictures cuz I've never seen the drum brakes before. And I don't want to rip everything apart without first having some information prior to ripping my car up like that.
SO anybody that can post or send like the helms picture, I would forever be grateful!!! BTW, this is for a '99 Accord LX and it's for the drum brakes in teh back.

http://www.howstuffworks.com is usually a decent site for newbies about things of this sort.
even the chilton manual was ok w/ me working on drums.
working one side @ a time helps as well.

bad advice... geez
based on his post, he's not that lazy to tackle the job
but if it were a timing belt, then i'd reconsider taking it to a professional if i don't have all the special tools or time it takes for me to do it...
just a reminder: wear safety glasses/ those springs can sometimes slip from your grip

WTF does that mean?
To the OP:
Doing drums is not hard. I did it for the first time on my girls 95 Jimmy. I just went onto AutoZone.com and took a look at their repair manuals. They aren't the best but it was enough to give me the idea. Then I just paid attention to how things came off so when I replaced everything I just did it in reverse of removal. Some people can do it without the special tools, but I found it quite easy with the special tools. I bought a Craftsman set for about $25 at Sears. Well worth it. It made removing and installing the springs much easier.
I agree with YeuEmMaiMai. Get the drums, brake shoes and hardware (springs, clips, ect.). Get some brake cleaner to clean the new drums and the grease from the parts you'll be reusing. Also, pick up some grease to put on the springs and pivot points after everything is reassembled.
A Helm manual is ideal, but I don't think you need to go and buy one for this job. Any basic repair manual should do just fine.

to add:
don't forget to carefully peel the wheel cylinder dust boots & check if it's leaking; time to replace them while u have the shoes off...
u don't want a leaky wheel cyl to ruin your new brake shoes' linings & have poor braking after all that work.
