are these chicago electric welders that are on ebay any good? good for exhaust?

my buddy had one of these and i couldn't run a bead on it unless the wire speed was turned all the way up even then i had to weld very, very slow.

 

i have one. i learned how to weld on it, which sucked. after learning how to weld (and without gas was difficult to learn) im doing pretty good with it. ive done exhausts, ic piping, downpipes, tial BOV flanges etc. ive put down some good beads now (1.5 years of welding with it now).

but theres nothing like welding with gas.
