Default Just finished cam install, PROBLEMS< PLEASE help!!!

OK, this is a non-ITR related question, so Vegeta or Ross, dont read this Anyways, i just finished installing ITR cams in a GSR, and its running like ****. It idles at like 400 RPMS and it has ZERO throttle response. Its almost like its not getting spark. Its really sluggish at first, but picks up around 7k, but not very hard. It is definately slower. I checked the timing belt, doesnt seem to be a tooth off or anything. Any other suggestions? I have never seen anything like this, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thats what im thinking, but everything seems to be in order with the timing belt. Maybe i got the belt off 1 tooth on the crank end, guess ill re-check everything tomorrow. It seems more spark or fuel to me than anything else. Do you think the GSR computer would run the cams OK? Theyre not that much bigger than GSR cams. I dont know, but im gonna keep looking

check cam timing. ITR cams run fine in a GSR. You may have slipped the timing belt a tooth or two off on the crank end. I would take the cams off, put piston #1 at TDC and put the cams on with the cams at top dead center and slip the belt on and re-tension the belt. Better to be safe than sorry.

are you sure you are using the correct tdc mark on the crank?
there are three marks close ot one another, then a fourth is an inch or so away, use that one, its your cylinder one TDC !

Or just stick a long object into the spark plug hole and rotate the crank until number 1 is at TDC

Yeah, i couldnt figure out which mark to use on the crank pulley, so i stuck a long screwdriver in the cylinder thorugh the sparkplug hole so i could figure out which mark was the right one. I still cant figure out WTF is wrong, but im going to pull it all apart today

Obviously your cam timing is off. Set the crank pulley so the white mark lines up with the line on the timing belt cover. Then make sure your #1 piston is at TDC, and not BDC. Pull the #1 spark plug to check this. Next when you align the cams to TDC, make sure the marks on the edges of the gears line up with each other. Its at 9 oclock on the intake cam, and 3 oclock on the exhaust cam. You should be able to see the marks. Also there are 2 holes in the oil bars that you can use a allen key or something to see if the cams are indeed at TDC. If they are, the allen key will fit into the hole in the cam. You will understand what i mean when your working on it. Next make sure you do a valve adjustment. If they are way off, your car will idle like crap. Also when putting on the belt make sure you do the tensioner right, otherwise it may slip and you could bend all of your valves.

ITR cams are a direct drop in. It should not be hard at all if you know what your doing. I made 202whp on my GSR motor with ITR cams, so obviously they can work just fine. The cams are now in my B20-vtec.

I'm just going to agree with others its definetly cam timing. The cams will drop right in and the computer will run them just fine. When you double check you should find a problem somewhere, even havein the t-belt off by one tooth will cause a problem (I ,cough cough, speak from,!!!! experiance)

No paint on the gears the white paint is on the crank pulley and to be sure you have cams level use a strait edge(ruler) across the gears all 4 marks should be level. theres also the locking holes through the cam holders to the cams but you need a nice fitting allen wrench or pin to lock them nice and level. Goodluck

One thing to check.. make sure you put the plug wires back on correctly.. if you mixed those up, it'll cause the same symptoms easily overlooked

Um why would you need to pull the crank pulley off?!?!?!?! That makes no sense at all. Also do what the other guy stated. Check and make sure your plug wires are in right. Heres a ghetto diagram that should help. Pretend your on the passenger side of the car looking directly at the distributor.

That should help. Remember #1 cylinder is the crank pulley side. That should help. Also if need be just use stock gears, because yours might be off. My friend bought a set of aftermarket gears for cheap, and it turns out the marking were all off.

bring it by Acura. if your valve cover is cut, i can tell you if the timing is off in like 2 seconds.

did you adjust your valves properly? if they're adjusted too tight, then the valves will always be *slightly* open and your car won't idle worth a ****.

PS- snap any more bolts?

He took it over to topspeed and they took care of him. His timing belt was off by a couple teeth, but it runs really nice now. BTW... Thanks Mike K for all the help with my car Ryan

How do you like the ITR cams? I have the intake cam in my GS-R and I love it.

To be perfectly honest tho I have had it in for so long I can't remember what it was like before.

VTEC is certainly louder now.
