Default Removing Cluster Needles

Hey all,

Dunno if this really should be here or in appearance, you tell me.

I have an SI cluster, year2000, and I would like to paint my needles white and change the backface for one with white lettering rather than the orange glow.

Anyhoo I know that I have to replace the backplates with a different one to change the orange glow to a white glow but I cannot remove them without removing the needles.

So does anyone know if I just pull on the needles in the middle to remove them? Or is there some trick?
I have attempted to pull them and they seem pretty stuck, perhaps glued.

Any help would be nice.

In addition, anyone every painted their needles before got tips or pics?

I would advise, unless you are EXTREMELY careful, to not remove them. I tried this on my 99 ex to get the cluster to look like a si, and I broke needles, and then when trying to put them back on the pegs, the bar had been moved and my cluster never worked the same again, so I just bought a si cluster. I would advise leaving them alone.

If you remove the tach or the speedo needle its Very difficult to get back on in the same place. If you insist on doing it tho I have a thread in my sig on how to get them back to where they need to be so you wont mess up the accuracy part of them. to get them off tho take something flat and slip it inbetween the needle and the gage and pry up slowly and keepmoving it from side to side you you push up evenly and you should be ok.

if you want to take the needles out , then yea they will be hard and you just pull at the base and they will come out.

as far as getting them back on and to show the correct speed etc. it needs to be recalibrated, i got my speedo done through my insurance company about 2 years ago. but you will not be able to get the correct speed doing it yourself.

Where can you go to get it re-calibrated? How much would this normally cost? Mine reads about 7mph too high (stock wheels and tire size).
