Default camera suitable for car mounting

i want to install a video camera in my car equipped with roll-cage. i looked into several shops that sells camcorders and found none that fits the critera. the clerks said i will go through several cameras because they will take a beating. i found a place that sells the proper mounting gear, but i want to know of any cameras you guys have used and/or suggest.... the car is used for r.r and a.x..........thanks

I did this last weekend. Perfect set up. Looks professionally done. I'll post the pics later of it. cost me like 50 bucks total and like 2 hours of my time.

Yep I got it the parts cost $10 and some change at Home Depot and the mount is what cost the most it is like 38 dollars or so but I am sure you can get it for cheaper.

I've got the Sony 120 series Hi8 digital cam & it works great! I've also seen the new Canon ~$600 version smaller full digi cam & it worked as good if not better + it's full digi.
