volt meter mounting opinions..
adding a digital 5 function volt meter to my superchicken... Adds a clock, volt meter, and thermometer... Anyways right now I'm having difficulties deciding where to mount it as there isn't what I'd call an ideal location... here's some pics (they suck cause it was getting dark). throw me some ideas
Only spot that comes to mind right off the bat is to mount it right underneat the speedo. Mate the face of it up flush with the gauge cluster, and a bit of it will stick off to the left, but that shouldnt interfere with anything. And if you do a decent enough job with it, it should just about look like part of the original cluster.

I kind've like that idea... it has stick on velcro and would just require a little lining up to make fit properly I think... Might overlap the bottom of the tach and top of the temp guage but that'd be alright...

can you circle where you're talking about?? like on the left and right?? If that's the case it'd be impossible to see while riding... it has a lap timer that would be nice to use and mounted on the side would be inconvenient I think...

If you want to be able to see it all the time your best bet is going to be an aluminum bracket from your fork tubes. I know someone makes them for lap timers like the XT racing one, I lost the link and I tried to google it but I came up empty. It sounds perfect for what you are looking for and shouldn't be too hard to fabricate or convert theirs to fit your meter.

Yea I know, the bracket I was talking about was made for XT racing lap timers and it's a great way to mount things. If I could only find the picture then you would know what I'm talking about.

another stupid question is how should I wire this?? There's 3 wires... black to ground, red to positive 12v constant source, and orange to positive 12v source turned on by ignition... thing is I tested it and the thing turned on right away without connecting the orange to anything
Was trying to get an idea where to connect it to though... I might say screw the orange wire and wire up my own relay...

You're not gonna need a relay for that. Are you sure that it turned everything on w/o the orange wire. It could've been just the clock.

My idea wins.
I'm sure theres a bracket/mount that holds the gauge cluster up that you could build off of pretty simply using some 1/8"x1" aluminum or something that you can buy at any Home Depot.

Systems like that usually default to "open" - so when the orange wire is not connected to a "switch" the unit will be 'ON' like in your example. I would splice that orange wire into your headlight line (on with ignition).
Have fun.
BTW, where'd you pick it up from?

i'm gonna do something similar to that.. I'll overlap the top of my tach just a little but not much at all... only prob is right now I have no tools to cut it out of aluminum...
