Default 94 Accord EX Leaking Oil

I have a 94 Accord EX sedan and it's leaking oil from the rear main seal.

I got a quote from a shop for $ 420.00 to repair 4-5 hour labor, does that sound reasonable ??????????

The only way to stop the leak is to replace the seal and it requires taking the transmission out. I replaced the transmission (auto) on my 91 Accord myself and can tell that it's hell of a job. I also had a leak and of course replaced the seal also at the same time. The seal itself costs like $7, but the work takes lots of time.

In my opinion - the price is not bad considering amount of work they have to do. I hope they will not tell you later that job actually took 8 hours and you have to pay for it.

I'm pretty sure you have heard advices like - check pricing in several places.

P.S. Before working on transmission I checked hours to replace transmission in a manual in one autoshop. For my car - Accord 91 - it was 8 hours. Rear main seal replacement should be around there. Accord 94 should be around the same. Multiply by hourly rate - you will have realistic cost.
