Question about swapping dashboards, but vin still stuck on there.
I swapped my dashboard from my old hatch onto a shell that i bought that did not come with a dashboard. Is it alright to leave my old vin tag on the dashboard? Or do i have to take it off? plus, can i take it off without having to remove my whole dashboard again.
You have to take it off, its not the correct vin for the car and will cause you proplems if you get pulled over ect, your better off not having one in there period IMO. as for taking it off I think the best way is to remove the dash again or at least tip it up so you can get at the rivits.
When I did my integra dash swap, I had to remove the original VIN # off of the civic dash, and superglued it onto the integra one.
I removed mine with a flathead screwdriver and some needlenose pliers.
It is wise to keep the VIN with the correct car (no matter what dash you put in).
If you ever got into an accident, and the insurance company comes out and sees that you don't have the correct VIN #, you could get into some problems.

would i still get in trouble if i kept all the paperwork that showed the vin belonged to me and told them i had just switched over the dashboard?
edit: yea i see what youre saying. where can i have a vin plate made for the car?

Dude, just drill out the rivets on the old dash and rivet the VIN plate to the new dash. That is what I did.
Edit: Nvm, you dont have a VIN plate for the shell. Paper, Marker, & Glue.
