They just unveiled this concept in Milan and I've gotta say, I'm smitten. The front fender needs more curvature to look good but other than that this bike is gorgeous. The press blurb says it'll do 220 kph (about 135 mph) which is more than plenty. That also kind of indirectly hints at how fast the KTM 950 SM can go, since it too has about 100 hp.
Of course the KTM950 SM will cost around $13k so unfortunately I imagine the Ducati will be more expensive. But damn, if its that sexy, it might be worth it

I would rather have the monstro... that looks like the 2 valve pantha engine, not a big hp maker... the aprilia is formula 1 all the way

Things like this and the aprilia 950SM will make it happen. Maybe.

LMAO, me too!

You two should read up on your history. Ducati made quite a few scramblers and trials bikes in the 60's and 70's, their motors were used in bikes like the Cagiva Elefant, and I believe Ducati themselves even made a dual-sport in the Cagiva days.

Motards are already mainstream in Europe, its just us that are way behind. But I think there are some reasons for that.
I was actually talking to one of the Honda motorcycle marketing guys a while ago about super motards. I asked him if Honda was considering selling a street supermotard over here and he said, 'not right now'. He said the problem is that motards are a little bit too slow for the average American customer who likes bikes like the CBR's or Interceptors.
That was a very valid point, because the sport-oriented rider is going to want something faster, and the touring-oriented rider is going to want something more comfortable.
So I said, 'what about a motard with a bit more motor, say a 650cc+ machine?' He agreed that something like that might be the ticket.
So I ask you guys, what would a motard have to have in order for you to want to buy one?
For me, a Honda street supermoto would have to:
-have at least 85+ hp
-be stylish (the FMX concept was cool but too funky, but the Ducati Hypermotard has the right idea other than the front fender)
For a race bike, obviously it'd have to be a 450. All Honda would really have to do is put big brakes, 17" wheels, a slipper clutch, and supermoto tuned suspension on a CRF450 and they'd be golden.
But then again, between the two, I would take CRF450SM if it were street legal.
Thoughts?

there's not much wrong with the aprilia design... esthetically or otherwise. the Ducati design is wonderful, but thats a big heavy bike... built tough for real duty, longevity, and comfort. the Aprilia is a thoughbred, allout pace, harsh, fully capable of winning the whole enchilada. I have no doubt that if Honda started to throw money at the project(and you can bet that they have start development), they can be the best, they are the best. As for now... Aprilia carries the #1 plate

Not to mention impossibly small tank ranges, lack of comfort, not quite fast enough or highway use, vibes, vibes, and vibes.

If by not much you mean a lot. The line of both these bikes just don't flow as smoothly as they should. I understand the motard concept but I have yet to see one that would make me want to spend money. I want to like the Ducati... really I do... but it just looks so confused.

Form follows function buddy, but as a professional designer for over 20 years perhaps my taste is a bit more sophisticated. I guess thats why I just can't bring myself to buying a slowzuki paper weight or to buy a motorcycle based solely on looks

Wow... who you trying to convince that you're superior, you or me? Maybe you should talk to someone about that.
