EX cat back exhaust used on LX?
leaving off from my thread from 7/16/05 https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1309646
I'm shopping for my little brother in Phoenix here from Kuwait. He has a 2005 LX coupe. I'm looking to purchase a cat back exhaust for him. I never did order the header for it. He changed his mind.
I have been told that this model's catalytic converter is integrated into the exhaust manifold like the ones found on the 1996-2000 Civics with the D16Y7.
Is this true?
A EX (D16Y8) cat back system could be purchased, but a test pipe would have to be made/purchased to fit the EX system onto the Y7 equipped cars. I had a 2000 Hatch and bought the Apexi WS for it. It was an EX system sold with a test pipe.
Is this the case with the 01+? I have seen a few "LX" systems out there, but not too many appeal to him, while there are a slew of them for the EX.
Another alternative is just to swap out the exhaust manifold/cat combo in favor of the EX Manifold and cat.
Can you guys help me out, and what are you doing/running?

an EX exhaust conversion is the easiest alternative. An Oem header can easily be found for $30, a test pipe for $60, and then the cat-back of your choice. On some models, if you use an OEM cat, youll have to replace or remove the front sway bar to accomodate it and extend your o2 sensor wires.
