Default Is it against the law to not have the third upper break light?

I have a GS-R with the stock mini spoiler with the lights on it and am going to swap it out for a type-R spoiler. is it illegal in cali to not have the third break light up there? integras that dont' come with the spoiler have the one behind the rear window, and if i'm not mistaken, the USDM type-R's have this as well.... anyone know the law on this in california?

actually no, it is not illegal.

and people who rear end other people because they dont see the 3rd brake light shouldnt be driving.

my car has a 3rd brake light, plus the all red tailights and was stopped at a Red light and guess what?

Even though there was a red light, a brake light and 2 tailights lighting up the streets, I was still rear ended by a F.O.B. in a brand new toyota 4 runner.

and guess what, that ************ had a cheap *** insurance that said it was my fault for stopping at a red light without using my hand to signal to warn the driver that i wasnt going to go until the light turn green.

it was my fault for stopping at a red light when i should have ran it and that it was my fault for not running a red light a 1am in the morning.

long story short, and after 100's phones calls with my lawyer, (was) i was granted $3500 for repairs, $500 for car rental, and $10,000 for pain/suffering and medical.

moral of the story dont drive in westminister. bunch of yuck-nams cant drive and are too cheap to buy real insurance.

I think they had Bistro insurance or some crap like that.

Its not illegal. There are plenty of cars that dont have 3rd brake lights. As long as you have two rear function brake lights, you should be golden

So in CA can we get pulled over for it? I was thinking of ordering the 3rd light from an LS from Len and get that taped into my hatch.

amen brotha, i live right by there over in long beach. over here, we have mexicans without any insurance at all, so consider yourself somewhat lucky! haha. my first integra, a white 95 gs-r, got rear ended and totaled by some mexicans in a big old SUV with a huge metal bumper on the front cuz they were rubber necking another accident. i'm not racist, but come on, you can't help but to stereotype sometimes! luckily i had full coverage and my insurance company was cool enough to take care of me before they even went after them. i don't even know if they ended up having insurance.

I've been debating to take off my wing as well.

I was hoping that in the future, someone would trade me straight up for my rear hatch with the stock wing for a LS/RS hatch or R hatch with integrated 3rd brake light.

I think that harder than it seems. If you wanna do it properly you would have to drill holes through your rear window. I have been driving around with out my third break light after I got my spoiler shaved with no problems *knock on wood*.

Ya i know. I wanna go to honda and have them install it. Itll be more expensive but i know itll be done right. I would never attempt to install it myself cuz i dont wanna drill holes in the rear window. Rather have someone who knows what their doing do it. Does anyone know what a 3rd brake light costs from factory?
