My EJ1 with 2nd gen jdm b16 only push starts?
My car will not start on its own for some reason besides when i pust start it. i thought it was my starter at first but i took it off and put it on my friends car and it starts right up. so i guess its not my starter because u can hear the starter spin but its not connecting to the fly wheel and the fly wheel is fine. this problem started happening gradually; sometimes it would not start on its own then sometimes it would but now i can only push start it. please someone help me because as soon as i figure out what the problem is i can get my car out the body shop. i been with out my baby since June.

You might want to check the switch that lets your computer know your clutch is pushed in, when you start the car (on the end of the clutch pedal arm). My 98 ex was having trouble starting and it turned out that switch wiring was bad (intermittent). The car only had 30, 000 miles on it too. Sorry I don't know the proper name for the switch.
was it a wire running to the ecu or was it a wire inside the ecu. because i can just get a friends ecu and try.
please i need as much feed back as possible

To be honest, I'm not sure. The wiring was near the switch under the steering collumn. The wire jacket had somehow gotten scraped and became intermittent. I think there are only 2 wires and one is a ground.

When I went to start the car, it would start sometimes if I moved the clutch pedal in or out by a small amount. Mine was probably a rare case, but I figured I'd pass along the info.
Main relay possibly...its a little brown box near the fusebox under the dash on the left side...those commonly go out. Try borrowing one from a friend to see if ur car starts.
unplug the neutral safety switch, try that. then you can start the car without pushing the clutch in.
or check the PGMFI relay.
my two cents

i had this problem before, my started wasnt grounding out, i run a ground wire to it and it starts right up now. mine would work sometime and then others nothin at all. hope this helps
thanks for all the feed back ill check into these. if anyone else has any sugestions tell me please.
if your battery is dead and you do not have cables to jump it; if your car is a manual you can have someone push your car while you are in it; have the car is first gear with your foot on the clutch; when the person is pushing your car and u catch a little speed (like 5 mph) pop the clutch then your car will start.
any other ideas guys!!!!!!

here is how to properly check for starter malfunctions. first you have to have a multimeter or something that can measure voltage. disconnect the starter signal wire from the starter (the smaller of the 2, has a slide connector) and measure the voltage between it and the battery negative terminal while the key is being turned to start and the clutch is depressed (pretend you are starting the car, but the wire is disconnected, so nothing will crank). if you have a reading less than battery voltage by a lot (more than a volt difference) you have problems with your switches(ignition, clutch safety, ECU). if you have the same voltage as your battery, your problem lies somewhere with your starter , installation or grounding most likely. second check is to check for battery voltage at the starter. do NOT crank anything. there is a big *** cable from your battery straight to the starter that should carry 12 volt power. it is attached by a 12 or 14mm nut on a stud. check the power by poking your positive to that stud and poke the negative to a clean spot ON THE STARTER. the starter gets its ground from its case and the transmission housing. if the ground is weak or missing, the starter will not function properly. so if you have low voltage here, check that your starter has a very clean connection with the transmission and the transmission and body is grounded. if you would like to check if this is the problem, remove one of the bolts that connects the starter to the transmission case, scrub the metal clean... connect a large gauge wire from that point to the battery negative terminal...retighten bolt, do not strip it. if it starts, you need to pull the starter and clean the connection and check the ground from trans to the chassis.

Not the case. My clutch safety switch isn't engauged (I did an auto/manual swap) and I've never had it be that way and my car works fine.
