Default GSM Alarm systems

Does any one have any experiance with these? An installer friend of mine had a proto type he got from some engineer guy a few years back. This alarm would text your cell phone when the alarm was activated it would even give you the speed and location of the vehical. You could call your car and lock or unlock your doors, remote start the car, kill the ignition if the car was stolen. This thing was bad ***. Unfortunatly I have since lost touch with guy. But I was wondering if any one has one or if any one knows who sells them. I have seen a few online. I think idealy I would want an add on system. so you could intigrate it with say a DEI alarm.

Okay I think I found what I was looking for. This alarm will allow you to lock, un-lock, remote start, or disable the fuel pump by simple text message commands from your cell phone. I have contacted the manufacturer and they are willing to ship me a unit for demo purposes for a small fee. Assuming these units are of decent quality what would you expect to pay retail for a product like this? Let me know what you guys think!!

You must scroll down to GSM auto alarm ..

These are the same thing as the GPS based units. GPS is one way communication, you are only able to recieve GPS signals. The data is then transfered over a cellular network.

So pricing I would suspect would be similiar, although it doesn't have GPS so it should be cheaper. Usually the rule of thumb is 100% markup from dealer cost.

Well you acctually can track the vehical through GSM towers. There are web sites out there, with a subscription of course, that will allow you to track cellular use by the tower that is recieving the signal. So the tracking may not be as accurate but it will get you as close as the nearest gsm cellular tower. Also as far as I know the GPS ones will not allow you disable the fuel pump if you get car jacked. Basicly you can completely control the alarm from any where in the world via your cell phone. Oh yes also there is a mic included that will allow you to monitor conversations inside the vehical.

Yes some of the GPS units allow you to shut the car down. Tracking by cell towers would suck. A single cell tower can have miles of range in a 360 degree area.

GPS can get done to 3ft. Some GPS units do allow full control. They are also using the cell network to send and recieve data. The only difference is they get a constant stream of data from a GPS satellite. All this consists of is cordinates, the software on the other ends takes this data and applies it to a map. The software is what also calculates speed between to cordinates.

I definatly agree the cellular tracking would not be that great. The main thing I like about this is the ability to remote start the car. I work in a large office building and I park in a large parking garage theres no way in hell I could ever remote start my car from here. With the cellular control tho this would be possable. As well as I like the fact that if Im in the mall or somthing I would still be in range of knowing if my car was getting vandalized.

I am in same situation. But I'm not sure which exact product I need to buy so I can start my car remotely with my cell phone. I know they use cell phones to start cars in Europe. But I'm not sure if any will work in US. Do I need any specific cell phone companyin US? If you can post the exact link where to find this product I would've really appreciated. (Sounds like a great Christmas gift too)

Thanks in advance

Same unit that a company out here was trying to market under a new name. I was not impressed with it. It was off by 4 or more miles. Look at mobile iq, computrack or crime stopper. These are the units I have the most success with.
