Default Painting Vinyl My results

!!!rehosted pic on putfile so my website will stop crapping out!!!!

ok ive seen a few threads about painting vinyl with the Duplicolor Vinyl but no one actually had pics or anything to say about it.

So i went and bought some gloss black duplicolor vinyl and said im gonna try this.

I used my center armrest to test this on (in case it came out bad) since that is cheap and easy to replace.

To clean the armrest i used CRC Industrial Heavy Duty Degreaser (i get this free through my dads company). That took off all the dirty human oils and grease.

then i used regular hand soap and water and cleaned it again.

prepping done.

This is the final result and i am amazed at how shiny it turned out, the texture is still on the armrest, and this vinyl spray does not run, i went a little heavy on the paint cause im a painting *** but this stuff didnt run one bit. this stuff drys in 10 min to the touch, im gonna let it sit for 2 hours before i actually put it back in the car, and tomorrow i will put some armor all on it and buff it down to a nice clean shine. (even tho its shiny as hell anyway)

please excuse the bad picture, all i have is a webcam cause my digi cam hit the floor and kabusted.

now my armrest takes quite a beating, rough coats, grease, dirt, bangs. So im gonna follow up on this, after a month we will see how well this stuff holds up. And if im satisfied, say hello to black interior

you shouldnt have issue with fabric it isnt paint its dye, so the arm ret is permanently black now... i did this to my rear speaker covers and plan doing it to that stupid grey climate control bezel thing in the middle of the dash.

good to know

also it looks as if the person before me tested this stuff on the steering wheel, cause part of my wheel is black and the rest is grey, it hasnt come off yet, i cant even scrape that stuff off. which is another reason i wanted black interior

yea you shouldnt be able to get it off because technically it isnt on the surface, but in it, i should do my steering wheel too, thats a good idea, the main thing that bothers me though is that center console thing thats grey, but i heard its a PITA to get off and it require the entire dash be removed...

dont cars with black interior have that thing grey as well?

im thinking of leaving mine grey.

or course you might be able to just tape the buttons and stuff off really good and try it, but that sounds kinda risky/ghetto

You've inspired me. I'm going to do my headliner black if not this weekend the next. I'll post pics too. How much was it by the way?

the reason i tried this is because this is not a Spray Paint. This is a spray DYE.

basically it soaks into the vinyl/plastic and dyes it , it doesnt coat it. so in theory it wont flake off, fading mabey but not flaking.

but i took my precautions and cleaned it really well first and just did that small piece.

not to mention there was a HUUUUUGE thread about using this a while ago, something like 20 pages or more but no one would try it, they say they would but didnt.

so i took the first step here

if someone else has actually done this please put some pics up so i can see your results

i was gonna try that but didn't know if it was dye or not. i was thinking bout getting the G2 interior paint because it said that it was a dye. thanks for the info i'm gonna get the dupli color if i do decide to repaint my interior. Did you use the interior primer?

make sure to let it sit for a long time before you actually start touching it. if you dont, it will definitely start rubbing of.
