Brake Pads -- Best for the Street?
Whats the best brake pad for the street? I'm running GT-Sports right now, but they squeek, and the initial cold bite isnt great IMO.
I saw Hawk has a pad dedicated to street use that claims 20% more braking power. Any good?

Anything better?

You sure you aren't just used to the GT-Sports. Initial cold bite seams better than stock to me. Mine really hardly squeek if any(Apply Lubri Moly to the back side of the pad upon installation), and they are great all around. Only complaint is mucho dust on Championship White wheels but it cleans up easily. But if you are convinced you need another pad, go OEM or Axxis Ultimates. I am running GT-Sports in the Front, and ultimates in the rear, it was very cold out today and they worked like every day. Just my feeling......

Yeah they're fine, but if aftermarket is really 20% better, or even 10%, why not?
10% better braking puts the ITR into Lotus/Z06 braking range right?

Axxis Ultimate here for autox/daily driver.
I haven't noticed less cold bite than OEM, and no squeaking, but certainly a lot more dust...

My personal experience with the Axxis Ultimates is not so great. I was really happy with the Carbotech Panther Plus as a multi-use pad, and will be switching back to them in spring.

These are also nice for the occasional track day. Only drawback was dust on the wheels.

I'm using the GT Sports. They virtually never squeal, and they bite well, warm or cold. So I guess my experience is different from yours. I love 'em on the street, and I love 'em on the track.
The stock pads are very good also IMHO, with very good performance (better than some people give credit for - and I used them on the street and track), no noise, etc.
I think with street tires - the braking is limited by tire adhesion not the brake pads.
I doubt that there is a huge difference between OEM and others.
Go with whatever is cheaper.
And if you want better braking - invest in better street tires

I'm running Cobalt GT-Sport pads (front and rear) at the moment and love them. They take a sec to heat up, but once they are heated they bite like crazy. They are not recommended for HPDE though, so you might want to get an extra set of pads if you ever decide to run on a track.

He is right. GT-sports are good for light to medium HPDE duty for front pads. (Basically novice group to 1st or 2nd time intermediate group)
They are GREAT for rear pads when used with the VR's as front for med HPDE to full race.
I loved my Cobalt brakes for racing.

My point exactly. He stated they're not reccomended period. Not everyone on the board is an all out professional road racer that needs something as aggressive like the VRs. I haven't had any issues with the GT-Sports on the track and am planning to run them again this weekend.
