When I lube my chain the stuff gets EVERYWHERE. Not only when I spray, but also when I go out for my first ride after I lubbed. Am I missing something here?
if you spray the inside of the chain it doesn't fly off, depending on how much you lube it. also if you just let it dry or use the chain wax or some other brand that won't "fling off"
I do this every 500 miles, or after a few rainy days...
1. Brush chain (roommates toothbrush would be funny!)
2. Spray wd40 or kerosene on chain (preferably the inside)
3. Wipe chain down
4. Spray chain wax
5. Wipe off excess
A few key things to remember:
- Don't be lazy and put the bike in gear to clean the chain.
- Watch out for your fingers near the sprocket. I've pinched mine before, and it HURTS.
- Check your chain for tight/loose spots.
- Check your sprockets for worn teeth.
