Default to those of you with AEM intakes...

hey I have a 99 integra GSR.. w/ Apex Dunk 115 catback system...I just got a AEM CAI w/ a bypass valve.. I really hate the fact that I have to cut the pipe..what is the chance that water will be sucked up?? isnt it well protected from all the factory splash gaurds?? I have read everything on the net and I really need some good hard facts.. it is my daily driver also...

thanks!

No recall on the bypass. I have it on my car and have no problems with it. I think problems are due to installation error.

If you want a little piece of mind install it. Cutting the pipe is not brain surgery.

The bypass valve is a waste of money and time. Don't use it. My car gets driven in monsoons everyday of the year to work, and I have never had problems with it. I have ran an AEM on two cars now. All my friends run AEM's and never have had any problems. You'll be fine.

It only works if your filter is fully submerged in water.

AEM did recall the first batch of bypass valves because a piece of it could break off and get sucked into the engine, but the problem was fixed a long time ago. Just keep your eye out for deep puddles and you should be ok. I heard you lose like 2-3whp from it because the aluminium is cut and can't conduct heat all the way through the tube. So the top half becomes warm, and the bottom half stays cold.

Here's the story on the AEM recall or at least the AEM story on the recall for the bypasses. http://aempower.com/voluntary.htm

I bought the bypass valve, but after reading that it drains power and that it is almost impossible to hydrolock unless your car is submerged in water, I tossed it in the garage. I've driven in several stormy days and nothing has happened. But, I also live in Southern California where it hardly rains.

exactly. when are you going to submerge your entire front bumper in water?
never. I hope!
dotn do it... just say no to the bypass valve!
