Default what is limp mode?

i've been having a problem with my b16 92 cx for about three months now, ever since i did the swap. i think it's in limp mode, but i haven't been able to figure that out. I don't get any cel, but the rev limiter kicks in at 7000 rpm. Ive heard that limp mode will change the rev limit to 7000, but i believe the ecu throws a code when the car is in limp mode. i'm running a jdm 93 b16a2 with a p28, all out of the same front clip. any suggestions?

no limp mode prevents you from reving pass 3k rpm and if you have an automatic it keep you can only use 3rd gear and reverse. but if its stick you just cant rev past 3k. what ecu are you using?

p28, out of the same car the b16 came from. i thought it was the cluster for a while, but i drove in a friends b16 crx with a stock cluster and it pulled right to the 78 redline according to the tach. i really like to retain a stock appearing car, so i don't really want to put in an aftermarket tach.

i thought this could possibly be caused by a bad distributor, anybody had a problem like this?

Im just thinking that possibly cuz I know that P28's are a SOHC VTEC ECU that it still thinks its a SOHC and those cannot rev over that. Is it chipped??? IF it has not been reprogrammed to DOHC mode it will not go past that point. You more than likely need to get it chipped and tuned. Thats just my 2 cents.

I just looked and i confirmed it the second gen B16's run a P30 ECU. SO what you need to do is get the P28 chipped and tuned. Don't dump it those are great ECU's. Just like i said get it chipped and tuned. Hondata is the way to go.

get like the s100 or s200 there under 300 bucks and if you plan on building the b16 or boosting it will help you in the long run

come on guys, i gotta figure this out

the car drives normal up to 7k and then it hits a rev limiter. there's no cel.

anybody out there running stock gauge clusters? maybe my gauge cluster is reading wrong. my vtec comes on just above 5k though, i think the stock crossover is supposed to be at 5300, so this seems right in line with what should be happening

and then it cuts off at 7k

any suggestions/ personal experience?

If your ECU is running in limp mode you will not be able to accelerate the car past 5000 rpms, and you will most likely be throwing a code. That is how a stock OBDII ECU works, as for a chipped or non-chipped or JDM ECU works, I do not know.

this has nothing to do with the stock gauge closter. I am running the stock gauge cluster on A h22 hatchie and i go all the way to 7500 and the gauge cluster limit is up to 7000. My friend is running a B16 integra which redlines also at around 7000 and he goes up to 8000. I believe this could and most likely is an ECU programming setup issue. Have you searched????

i've searched, and ive heard people reference cars being limited to 7k, but everything that i have seen in the archives have attributed this to the car being in limp mode. as i recall it was on obd0 cars in the crx forum. this is an obd1 setup with a stock ecu. i looked inside the ecu adn its virgin.

i have heard some people say that this could be caused by a bad distributor, but im not certain of this and that doesn't really seem possible if the car runs fine up to 7k.

i don't know what to do about this, and its driving me nuts

Limp in mode, is when the computer engine management system in which one or more major component circuits have falied and a substitute value is used to retain driveabilty. Until you fix the problem.

No it's not. VTEC has nothing to do with timing. It's speed, oil pressure, and water temperature. Good try though.

Actually, it might. I had an sir2 motor put in my 93si and the factory guage cluster was off. It looked like my rev limiter was set at 7200rpm. I hooked up a VAFC and my limiter was right where it was supposed to be. I then replaced my meter panel with an sir2 one and this one displays fine.

Not saying that the factory one won't work, but before the swap it has never had to go up that high.
