Default F22B1 head vs F22B2 head: Differences?

I searched, and came up with mostly confusion.. Couldn't seem to get a straight answer.

Are there any differences between the VTEC and non-VTEC heads? ie, can the same exhaust and intake manifolds be used? If I was replacing a VTEC head with damage, could I just put a non-VTEC head on and put the VTEC solenoid and whatever else right on there?

Sorry if these questions seem retarded.. Possibly doing my first SOHC Accord rebuild and want to know what I'd be getting into. Thanks!

The heads are totally different.

Manifold compatibility depends on the model

There's a lot more to VTec (internally) than just a solenoid

the cam and the vtec solenoid are the biggest differences. The manifolds are interchangable with those 2 engines.

b1 head will outflow the b2 head all factors equal. that includes intake/exhaust duration and lift.
not to mention the fact that the b1 head has bigger valves as well if im not mistaken.
no you cannot just make a nonvtec head vtec. thats what headswaps are for, if you like vtec or dohc.

as stated before, the heads are different in the fact that you cannot convert a non vtec head to vtec. on f22b1 and b2 heads, you can interchange intake and exhaust manifolds perfectley.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by f22b2tdave &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">not to mention the fact that the b1 head has bigger valves as well if im not mistaken.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

the valves are the same size

the complete rocker arm assemblys between the two heads are completley different also...

if you really had to though, you could replace a vtec accord head with a non vtec head and have it run fine except you will throw two cel codes, both being vtec related, but it will not affect your driveablity...

i believe the intake valves different by a few millimeters. i could very well be wrong, ill see if i can get randy(accord387) to pitch in on this.

tasauto has two different part numbers for valves, one for ex models (vtec), and one for non-ex models.
b1 intake(stock size): Part # 561800
b1 exhaust(stock size): Part # 561801
b2 intake (stock size): Part # 561804
b2 exhaust (stock size): Part # 561805
