are there any local fabrication forums for the greatlakes area?? im looking at picking up some used equipment basicly what ever i can find and afford lol its alwasy nice to have tool and find a use for them

if you know of any or even of any that have some locals to this area please post up links for me

 

What are you looking for exactly ? I'm around Chicago, but not to far from great lakes. I have customers up there and they say the ride is not that bad.

 

stuff like a used mill or a small lathe maybe a blasting cabnit you know just stuff to fill my garge up lol


and i want to see what kind of services are avalible local also

I pretty much do all types of services, feel free to IM me.

As far as the used parts go, good luck with that, its usually hard to find used tools like that. Unless a Wife gets them when the husband either dies or divorces.

 

im in michigan - (a pretty great lakeish location) - not sure of a fab only forum for the gls area. im in the neighborhood though -

shop building is similar to car building - ya need infrastructure, a general goal that you try to stick to, some hierarchy of need and funding. even on a small scale youll save alot of cash over the long haul if you just stick to your plan and do it right the first time.

theres also logic in deciding what level you want to work at, so you dont start aquiring machines that see use once or twice a year and are just sitting around. using myself as an example, ill make patterns for castings, but i dont own a kiln and pit, its just easier to make the part and then take it to the guys that do it every day - i dont want to own a foundary, talk about overhead

 

hahaha yeah i guess your wright about the getting only what i need but a mill is on thing i do need well not need but would realy like and use alot


lathe well that is the bottom of the list lol but not sure what else to get maybe a little tig welder to go along with my mig and a engine stand that would probly be it if i can find them used that would be cool

but more important local shops i would realy like to know what is avalibel loca (from what it seems like i can drive 2 hours any direction from aurora il and find what ever i could dream off lol)
