Aftermarket Electrical Part
My battery died recently in a horrid display of how to leave me stranded. I looked into the cause and, among other things, my Rectifier/Regulator is bad. I expect the stator to be nearing the end of it's life, too... though it seems to test out fine.
Anyways, I've got an Odyssey PC310 battery on order - a product which I know is worth it's weight in gold. However, I started searching for aftermarket RR's. I found at least one (by ElectroSport), as well as an aftermarket stator. They are substantially more expensive than OEM units, but not prohibitive by any means.
I can clearly see the advantages of a well made aftermarket stator - more charge at idle would be a wonderful thing. What are the advantages of an aftermarket RR, though? I know that the product life should be better... and?

pwned by electricity!
i hope my help was worth something. i don't think your stator is bad, but with your bikes age it wouldn't hurt to replace it, since permanent magnets can lose magnetism after a while.

A big help. Thank you.
The jury is still out on what to do about the stator. I'll probably leave it for now and replace it sometime over the winter... more current would be a really nice thing to have.
