Koni Yellow, any down sides?
We've all heard that Koni Yellow are the best, a god send, blah blah blah. What about the other side of the coin? Anyone ever have bad experiences with them? Or even if you are satisfied overall, are there little things that bug you about them? Any applications where they would not be recommended?
I already got screwed over once when buying aftermarket shocks, I don't want to regret another purchase.

I've got Yellows on my 89 hatchback and I can't think of any negative thing without being major ****!!
Installing the stock hose support braket on the front shocks was a real tight fit and I had to beat them on with a hammer. This does no damage to the shock! I just felt like an animal doing it.
This is my second set of yellows (I sold the car that had the first set) and if I needed shocks for another car, I'd buy another set!!!!
Keep in mind that they have a life time warranty (to the original buyer) and as such, I'll never have to buy another set for my current car.

Turner;
I'm running Koni SP3 yellows and Neuspeed street springs. It's set at just slightly lower than stock.
It's comfortable and yet has a good "firm" feel. I'm an old guy and don't want something that rides like a truck. It's not really required to get good handling. I do enjoy driving "briskly" through the canyons.

94 honda accord with neuspeed street springs. i like the konis alot. the only downside is i wish i could get a firm ride so i could corner better, but that makes ride rough. i just hav it turned a quarter and its soft enough but car leans a lot.

George Knighton had a few sets blow out unusually quick, but he's the only one i've ever heard with that complaint.
You may not think this is a problem, but you can't exactly slam your car down to the ground and bask in t3h gh3yn355, y0!! like a ricer. but you're not a ricer, right?

No, I'm not a ricer. My GC would be set as high as they go and I have an extra set of top hats now so I can try and make some extensions. But the shocks would see their full range of motion daily from the shitty *** streets around here. They would not bottom out but they would be working hard.

I dont own the shocks but was considering them. They are a bit expensive but most would say they are def worth it.

comparing the $500 price tag to the $350 price tag for KYB's, it's just a $150 difference.
$150 is nothing in the long run. these shocks are definitely "long run" items. they're worth every penny of that $150 and more.
i'm generally not a "since i bought it, it must rule" nor do i subscribe to blind brand loyalty as a life philosophy...
but the koni yellows are so good, i can't stop telling people about it. i also will never use another company's aftermarket shocks on any of the vehicles in the garage. whether it's the yellows, the spss3's, the 2812's or the 3011's, i'm a koni man for life.

Little thing:
When I installed mine on the civic, the paint cracked off of the shock at the part where it meets up to the wishbone collar. Nothing that would affect performance I hope, but it kind of bothered me. Was I correct to raise up the LCA before tightening the pinch bolt? That's when the paint started cracking.

yeah, sometimes getting the bottom of the shock into the fork is tough, i use your "method" whenever the shocks are being stubborn. don't worry about the paint, even if the shock were to get into the fork without the paint chipping, the paint would get annihilated by the fork anyway.

I just sprayed mine flat black. The lowered, red, Integra already screams "steal me" without the bling-bling yellow showing through the wheels...
Now, if I had had a dremel before I installed mine. That polished body looks good.

http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com/suspension.htm is one place to get them. Chris really knows his stuff there as well.
edit: i thought you meant the ssps3 valved shocks. The couple extra circlip slots of the neuspeed "sp3" are not worth it in my opinion, especially if you plan on running GC on them.
