Default Yes...Nissan has 'Vt@K'! (56Killer)

I'm posting this for a friend of mine.

Car: Nissan Sentra SE-R (B13)
Engine: SR20VE+T (Neo VVL)

For those that don't know, Neo VVL stands for "Nissan Ecology Orientated Variable Valve Lift and Timing." It never made an appearance here in US automobile market. However, it is mass produced everywhere else. The VE (Neo VVL) series of engines is Nissan's answer to Honda's VTEC. The two systems are nearly identical. They use the same concept of multiple cam lobes to provide a low rpm cam ideal for torque and a high rpm cam optimized for hp. The only difference in the Nissan system is that the intake and exhaust cams are triggered indepedently for a flatter, more consistent power band. Factory specs of SR20VE:
SR20VE - 187hp @ 7000rpm / 145lb torque @ 6000rpm

Setup:
Turbonetics T3/T04E Ball-Bearing turbo (.60 comp, .63 back, Stage 5 wheel)
Nismo 740cc injectors
JWT ECU, Z32 MAF
Nissan Factory GTiR Rods
Wiseco 87mm, 8.8:1 pistons (actual compression 9.4:1)
Rev Hard Cast manifold
Stock Head including cams
Stock Sleeves

Pics:

Dyno
Since this motor was primarly designed from Nissan as an All-Motor application, we feel the motor is lacking more power at 21psi. The motor is suffering from a classic case of overlap. We had to keep moving the "vT@k" engagement higher and higher because it responded better; final engagement was left at 6K RPMs. The factory 20VE cam specs:

SR20VE
Intake cam
Low lobe: 8.4mm lift @ 220 duration
Low lobe center angle: 110deg
High lobe:10.7mm lift @ 264 duration
High lobe center angle: 104deg

Exhaust cam

Low lobe: 6.6 mm lift @ 244 duration
Low lobe center angle: 122deg
High lobe:10.34 mm lift @ 268 duration
High lobe center angle: 114 deg

This was a 'break-in' dyno session. We wanted to see where the motor was standing at before any final adjustments are made.
9 psi: 301whp & 287wtq.
15 psi: 389whp & 339 tq.
22 psi: Look Below

Dyno Sheet:

The car will be heading back to the dyno with news toys and 30psi of fun
New toys added after dyno session....

The other red turbo SE-R?? Your probably talking about Rob. He sold the turbo setup and went back to being All-Motor. N/A is in his blood.

Nick...engine took too much detonation; piston 3 was fried. He'll be back on the road soon.

Nissan Factory GTiR Rods = weak link

I have seen too many sets of GTiR rods fail on TUNED rally setups. Why skimp on such an important item?

Currently it is still running a B13 tranny. B15 tranny is on the way soon.

Sorry buddy, GTiR rods have been holding over 550+whp for years.
Where have you seen them? In your shop? Videos? Proof?
I'd rather put GTiR rods over Eagle rods any day. As a matter of fact, GTiR rods are meatier than Eagle Rods and not to mention cheaper.

That setup looks killer

My buddy has a Bluebird motor in his B13 and ran high 11's with a tiny turbo setup -- it has blown some things along the way ( a few headgaskets) but 11.7@116-118 or so --- awesome 60'

I am a Honda guy but so far his B13 has gone faster than any of the local S13's with SR20's --- even a built SR20 using a 50 trim first and then a 60-1 now

Luckily we have a few Honda guys running 10's@135+

Its fun to talk trash though --- "stock turbo" Nissan battle cry

You mean one solenoid(s) for each cam ? Dont see an advantage for that.

That waste gate dump is gonna leave some nasty smeared fumes on that paint.
