Default Removing sound-deadening material.

I'm in the process of stripping my interior. I realized that there is sound-deadening material all over my car. I tried peeling some of it off, but it's stuck with what seems to be a black adhesive. It's very sticky and tar-like.

How do I get it off? Goo-gone? What's this I hear about dry-ice?

wear thick gloves.. break up dry ice and throw it on wait about 4-5 mins and just chizzle it off.

Dry Ice is the only way i would do it.. it freezes everything together.. any other way it will come off like black tar and wont come off 100%

you can do it without dry ice, you just gotta be willing to work at it a little more. I used a flat head and a hammer, and chisled (sp?) off the padding part. There was a little bit of tar here and there, whatever didn't come off clean the first time around. I happened to have "PB penetrator" (from pepboys) which is like WD40 but supposedly stronger. This stuff practically melted off the left over tar, easy enough to wipe off with little additional scraping required. 45 minutes total for one section right under the pass side rear. Use what ya got, i guess.
Also, scraping along the metal is not a big deal, as long as you slide in at a low angle. If anything, the scratches are extremely light and can be easily sanded of buffed out. I plan to refinish the inside anyway with a new coat of paint.

If your talking about the foil with black tar stuff underneath it, peel it then use goo gone. If it is the painted stuff, DRY ICE all the way!

Believe me dry ice did notthing for that foil tar crap that was sitting on top of my fenderwells.

Dry Ice works great pretty much everywhere else...

You'll need:
a blunt screwdriver.
a small hammer.
carb-cleaner & rags for the remaining goo.
a few slabs of beer.
lotsa weekends.
