Want to get opinions on what ECU or ECU piggyback is good for a H22 Turbo setup? I have most of the info in my sig. All internals are stock. I'm thinking about upgrading my fuel system soon. Just wondering who makes a good piggyback for the H22 motor? I want to stay AWAY from sending my stock ECU to some place to get it soldered and modded. Are piggybacks the way to go? AEM? GREDDY? OTHERS BRANDS? Let me know guys. Thx.

than keep your stock ECU and send away a P28 to get modded. what are you afraid of? I can't fricken wait to fire up my H22A with a P28!

read up on Hondata, Crome Pro and Neptune. they are all great (well, depends on who you talk to) and they require a 'chipped p28'. That's as plug and play as you can ever get for your Honda.

Also, AEM is not a piggyback.. you should do some searching on the differences between piggybacks, "chipped" honda ECU's and stand alones before asking another question..

 

I'm still new to this turbo scene. I'm still learning alot about whats needed and whats recommended. Thats why I'm asking around these forums. Whats the P28?

92-95 SOHC VTEC Civic ECU.

 

You have a '98 lude, you won't be able to do anything to the stock ECU anyway. Speak with your local tuners, find out what they are comfortable with using.

 

p28's are very popular when it comes to tuning a h22 with the ecu for higher than stock specs. i just recently purchased a p72 (gsr ecu) in which i plan on running hondata on. you will have to do a obdII to obdI conversion if i am not mistaking. 97+ hondas are obdII and can't use obdII ecu's without the conversion. i am not sure about the others like chrome,uberdata(spelling?) and neptune.

yeah teh p28 is popular and stuff... and i think the only difference between the two is that the p78 allows a knock sensor to be used... good luck

seems like crome is the popular one among the 'freeware" users these days. The software is quite nice and intuitive.

uberdata is also freeware but not supported as much.

neptune software is (according to honda-tech) a step above hondata.

Someone flame me if I'm wrong, but In the end they are all GUI's for programming the same damn chip, so they all have equal potential. just depends on whether you willing to pay for a further developed software.

great seller and customer support..just buy another ecu and keep ur stock one in a safe place...use uberdata to tune..works great!

yep, i'm using uber 1.7, with datalogging...its not that hard to use, i started out with knowing jack about tuning, made a few post well in the uberforum, and sent numerous IMs to people that supposedly knows alot about uberdata, and no one replies, got poor support, but not really rocket science to use and figure out. i'm still not done, and i wont claim to have mastered it yet, just gotta understand the concepts i guess, but when i get the time to tune, i can feel that i am making more and more power, no major increases, because i'm just changing my maps little by little street tuning, but keep an eye on a/f and deal with ignition slowly..i started out way retarded on timing, and slowly advancing where i feel needed...looking great so far, prolly hit the dyno next week sometime and post results..

 

First off he can get an ODB2 P72 and it should be plug and play.

I recomend the 72 cause you can keep your Knock Sensor and IABs

SOftware I am still in the air myself, but I am either going Uberdata or Hondata (I THINK?)

 

If your ecu is obd2b then it has a tendency to freak out even when using a piggy back. You could get an obd2a ecu and run a piggyback such as e-manage if you have a competent tuner in your area. And for all those people that say e-manage sucks, screw em it works for your set-up. I run it, and know others who run it with out problems. otherwise i have heard of people running the p28 and p72. It really depends on how much you want to spend. I think you are obd2a and the 99 and up are obd2b, but dont quote me, research it yourself.

user notanothersc61 is running e-manage on his stock h22 @ 8 psi putting down 300 horse with a 2.5 inch down pipe, a cat, and 2.5 inch exhaust. pretty damn good numbers if you ask me.

edit: just saw your michigan. Call up tunning factory and talk to them. Dan is very good with e-manage and tuned notanothersc61's lude. You may also consider swapping out that t3 for one of STC's "redpill's"

 

My buddy is about to do a boosted H22 project. He was given a P13. Is that the correct ECU? Is that OBD-I or II and is it chippable?

 

the p13 is the stock ecu for the h22 ... if you want an ecu to chip for the h22 just get a p28 or p72 and socket it... and while your at it you might as well get it setup for datalogging... good luck...

What if you already have a P13. It's easy as hell to chip an ECU. $15 for the parts, maybe $5 for the desoldering stuff, and a few minutes of your time.

I guess my question is "Is the P13 chippable?"

Yes, but it does not have the support that the integra/civic ECU do with tuning software (crome has some).

 

Chipping a P13 isn't recomended nor is it EVER done as far as I know. The P28 and 72 are much better canidates!

 

You can use P08 (That comes with JDM 92 - 95 D15B).

I'm actually using the p28 w/hondata s300. Great system

But if you want to use the p28 - you'll lose the secondaries........and knock sensor.

If you use the p72, you get to keep all of it - i think the p72 ecu is a little more expensive though. Either way, its great.
