Default question regarding limit straps

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not limit straps are allowed for use in "street stock" class. also whether or not limit straps will have any real benefit on a dot tire. having a good 60' is going to determine who dominates this class next year, so im looking for any advantage to get my 60' down. thanks

i would imagine they would be legal - can't see why they wouldn't be

as for whether they will help or not...

you are asking a question that i doubt anyone would really have an answer to since a competitive class on drag radials hasn't existed till now - the development on what works and doesn't is being done currently - so put some on your car and let the rest of us know how they work out

as for a T4/SFWD trim car - i don't think they work - we had them on the coupe last year for the majority of the season - took them off and went 9s the next pass - could of been the sick track in Dallas, etc but who knows - we haven't run them at all this year and i guess the car is doing alright

interesting....it must also depend on the preload you put on the suspension etc. because if there set too tight, the suspension cant flex at all, and well if there too loose, might as well not have them. i guess as far as first hand input, im gonna have to rely on guys experiences with slicks, turbo or all motor any input on whether it improved/ hindered 60' times. thanks for the input thus far

with dot tires, the main thing you want to keep under control is tire bounce! if the tires start to bounce, things will start to brake! as far as the straps, they might help to some degree. but once you have the suspension set up, you'll need power to pull you quickly out of that first 60 feet! my .02c!

i put them on my car last year, i've had no improvement in 60ft. although i did notice it helped with traction on the street somehow... 14psi without them hooked up, i'd spin all over the place. with them hooked up they didn't spin. but talk about vibrations through your steering wheel.

I was thinking of getting them. Why is it that some people say they dont work? Others swear by them. What negative effect would the limit straps have?

They work if they're setup right. Too tight and they won't work, too loose and they don't do anything. If you set it up right, it will help limit rebound and still let it come up on the tire like it should. I don't know how they'll work on drag radials though. My guess is they will work good if you spend some time setting them up. Most of the fast t4 guys run omni shocks, which essentially do the same thing as straps, so...

another point, my power levels damn near doubled from the last year to current year.. So that increase in power, probably had something to do with me not being able to put 1.6s any more... I need to play with mine more, we set them up on a lift with the slicks on, but never really adjusted them too much at the track. next season i'll play with them more.

So in other words, we have this thing called suspension to use at our advantage. Straps are a "piggy" back. I know people will disagree with me, but its ok.

Well right now i'm running Koni yellows with a skunk2 drag launch kit. I pull 1.6's and 1.7's. I'm using a 26 inch slick and dont drive the car on the street much. I'm just trying to get better traction in the 1/8th mile. My best is a 6.90 and i would like to do better. I had 600whp and i'm hoping to make 750whp and go 9's. How much is the Omni set up i have heard mentioned? I really notice at this level how important suspension is.

Suspension is very important. I run 1.58 60s on 25" slicks and I only made 505whp this year.
There are so many people sell Omni-powers on HT.

well from what you guys have stated so far, all a limit strap is good for is if your front suspension is not "tuned" properly. my car has kyb agx struts with some spring i dont even know what brand, would it be in my best interest to invest in better suspension front and rear and depending how that works out try limit straps?

It seems like short stroke shocks will do the same as limit straps.

Just trying to limit the suspension lift.
