What would an ex-ITR owner buy next?
I'll be driving my CRX for at least a while once I get back to it (and the insurance co. decided what they want to do), but I've been considering these as replacements.
One more seriously than the other, but the hybrid doesn't come with an openable upper covering.
Well that, and the disparative mpg numbers.

how about another ITR?
Ed i understand your reasons for not wanting another, but felt the need to throw that out there!

Frankly I would like to get another one, but it would still be sitting outside like the other one.
On top of that the insurance company has done everything except to suggest that I had something to do with it! LOL!

Absolutively!
I've got a stockpile of "parts" sitting around for the CRX.

What kind of daily driving do you do - mostly stop & go city stuff, or more highway/open road? The Hybrid will give you the good MPG if you're doing more city driving; otherwise it will probably take longer for the savings on fuel to match the extra cost of the Hybrid car.
Between the two, I'd have to recommend the Si.
It's not as drastic a departure from the R as the Hybrid would be.

i would not even worry to much with the MPG after i saw this on the news the other morning......

If you buy a hybrid, beware of the hidden costs. There have been serveral articles with the opinion that the added cost vs. saved fuel of a hybrid is not worth it, taking into consideration that one day the batteries have to be replaced.

Honestly I was like "bah" when I saw the new civic Si announced, however after seeing it in person at Sema, and seeing a full race car they made out of it very very nicely, my mind was quickly changed.
The only thing that kind of bothers me is it looks like some maintanence will be kind of a PITA with the tight engine bay, the vavle cover being so close to the windshield and making clearance an issue. Still I would definately get one, in fact its the first NEW car I'd consider owning in a long time.

That's certainly something to take into mind.
I've had two of those 1st gen CRX Si (still have the 85 and I put 273K miles on an 87 I bought new).
The worst the 87 ever got was something like 17 mpg at Summit Point about a decade ago, the best being low 40s on a drive from Nova to Albany NY via the "inland" route (though I admit to doing less than the speed limit up hills, coasintd down others and having only like 3 cars pass me in about 450 miles). Hehe ...
Probably the Si ... when it comes out.
The CRX will serve as the "beater" in the interim.

Would you still consider this a big issue with the removable cowl removed? My understanding is there are 9 clips that hold the cowl in place and it was designed to be removed for service (valve adjustments, etc.) Is the engine still too close to the firewall? I haven't seen it in person.

Ok, I was thinking that might be possible when looking at it. I was thinking, well now valve adjustments are a lot harder
I'd like to take another look at it, plus one of the ones I saw had a K24 swap in it so

Those K24 swaps got my attention.
The car isn't even out yet! The aftermarket on the Si is just going to be crazy.

I hate biased polls.
Which one sounds better?
2006 Civic Si ~ 31 mpg
2006 Civic Hybrid ~50 mpg
Okay, NOW which one sounds better?
2006 Civic Si 0-60 6.5 seconds
2006 Civic Hybrid 0-60 9.5 seconds
(I don't know what the exact numbers are, I'm just making a point about how polls sometimes make one choice sound better than the other one.)

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I did that to bring up one of the issues that had me thinking.
Then there's still that moonroof thing, and I don't know how well I'd like the CVT.
But, I see it likely that the new Si may soon be as much of a thief/theft magnet as the ITR seems to be, whereas the Hybrid is more of an uninteresting appliance for the most part.

Also I'm pretty sure the rear seatback still doesn't fold down on the Hybrid model.

Ed, go and drive both of them, the lack of speed might make the decision to go another route.
But if it was me and just needed to get around town... I'd pick up the cheapest POS I could find. W/ A/C of course.

No doubt. Have you seen the sedan with the HFP accessory bodykit? Looks quite nice; not tacky. I've got an Accord LX sedan for when I need the 4 doors or I'm going somewhere I don't want to take the R for security reasons. It can be a nice convenience.

The Rex has A/C and a sunroof!
But needs some borywork and my rust through in another couple year or two.
