My long road on getting this 1991 Accord on the road, something else has cropped up. The "Sports" light on the dash stays constantly lit. It isn't flashing, which according to the owner's manual would mean trouble. The switch on the shifter has no effect.

I'm thinking it is the switch itself, but why would the light (or shift mode) default to being on? Or if the switch malfunctioned in the engaged position and is stuck there. The switch still clicks in and out. It would figure that I ordered a bunch of parts and then something else dies out. Any help would be appreciated.

 

Hate to reply to myself, but there is a interesting development. I took the switch out of the shifter last night to see if it was gummed up. I got the light to turn off and the switch to work. Problem solved, right?

Well I was working on the window with the key to "On." I had partially rolled down the driver's side window when I heard the shift lock click about three or four times and the Sports light on the dash comes on. I extiguish the light via the shifter switch, turn the ignition back to off, turn it back on again, and I hear the same clicking and the Sports light comes back on. Now that is really odd.
