Default Having a hard time choosing a turbo...

I've been looking for at boosting my car for a while now, and i realized that Honda-tech has some damn good prices so i might just jump ahead a little and get something for this spring....I'm having a hard time finding a good turbo for my application.

I have a 99 GSR w/ 54k on it. The engine isn't seeing any sort of internal modifications and i plan to make ~300whp....what turbo would give me good response on the street and still be able to crank out 300whp when i need it? I am looking at getting a Quick 4 manifold from Spoolin Performance, as well as their IC kit. I think that i'm going to get a Hondata S200 for management and RC550's.

Im just wondering if you guys could help me out w/ my turbo decision. I was looking at a GT35, but that's too much for my budget. I was also looking at an SC61, but i think that's too big....i might be wrong.

Thanks for the help guys!!

Both of those turbos would be overkill for only 300whp.

GT28RS will make that power no problem.... can't beat the response either. Only bummer is the price

garrett T3/TO4E 57trim

this turbo will easily make 300whp on pump gas. It will give you a little more room to play with than a 50 trim so that when you figure out you want more than 300whp you can turn up the boost.

heres a little article from DSport on the Peakboost website. This one of DSports project cars using the same turbo as mentioned above.

that DC article surprised me! As much power as that made, i really don't know if i'd like to be pushin that much on my STOCK motor daily. ~300whp is all i really need for now. I need to keep my engine and all the parts in it, inside the engine.....

So would a GT28r(s) be about the right size then for 300whp?? I might have to look into it and if i can find one that isn't really spendy, i might have to get one!

Thanks guys for all the help and info!!

if you read the first part of the article.. you will notice that the horsepower is 334whp @ 9psi. the tune was conservitive and definately safe enough for a stock engine.

t3/to4e 50 trim or 57 trim they would both be fine for your setup and spool early enough. Remember very early spool is not always the best thing.

gt28rs gets my vote. no point in really getting a turbo like the sc61 which is capable of 600+ whp and only tryin to get 300 out of it. go for the broader powerband.

i loved my GT2871RS but the shitty part was puttin the power down to the ground was definatley hard.

.50 trim gets my vote for a 300 WHP setup.

The Gt28RS(disco potato) is awesome, My friend has one, full spool at like 3500rpm's and make over 300 hpr on just less than 12psi, but remember it uses a T25/T28 flange, differant than your average T3 flange...I think.

What turbo was used in that DC article? I would honestly like to make as much power as possible.....especially if it didn't cost a lot more. I don't really think i'll be able to fit a GT28rs into my budget ($1125). I would definately like to make ~300whp, but like in that article, 334whp would definately be better....

You guys have been really helpful....thanks a ton!

I looked into that article's set up on the Civic, and it is a good price, but doesn't include the injectors or management and i think that i can find better prices if i just take some time and look around a little.

I didn't plan to boost until spring 2007 so i'm not in a real hurry.......who am i kidding!! I'd love to do it tomorrow, but i just can't do it because i'm in college.....so i'll have to wait!
