Difficulty of Oil Pan installation? 4th gen
Im pretty sure the threads in my oil pan are stripped, since i had to use an over-size drain plug to make it fit. I still have around 2k before i need to change the oil again, but I was wondering if the best thing to do would be get a new oil pan or re-tap the current one im using.
If you guys think a new pan is a better idea, how hard is it to swap them out? i searched, but there aren't any guides on it, and i nobody really said how difficult it is.
ps. this is on a 92 si (h23).
thanks

let you'll have to take it off anyway, which way you go. It would be kinda hard to drill and tap that hole under the car. Its not hard to remove just unbolt the 20 million bolts that hold it in place and pry it off. Then you can decide on what to do with it from there.
thanks for the replies guys
How hard is it to re-tap the hole and i don't know what heli-coil is
edit... i just looked it up, i guess its a re-tapping kit

I had the same problem, so I just replaced the whole oil pan.....it was rusted anyway. So you have an oversized plug in there, and it's still stripped out?
well, i couldn't get the regular ones to tighten, and the oversized one seemed a little too big, but i guess i got it in there. im just not sure if it made it worse by forcing it. I guess it was one of those self tapping kindof oversized bolts, it might be ok. I was just kindof worried about it. It hasn't leaked or anything so i know its on tight enough.
I didn't want to get to my next oil change and have the oversized bolt not want tighten either, leaving me with a fucked oil pan and no car to get to work/school.

yeah, that's exactly the situation I was in.
You have to put a lot of force to get the oversized plu in there, because it has to cut new threads. It wouldn't be any good if it didn't do that.
I felt the same way though, I was scared about getting it tight agin on my next oil change, and it's really hard to get the oversized plug to go in straight, while you're under the car, putting enough force on it to cut new threads. It ended up being a little sqewed, and leaked oil a little. That's whay I just replaced the whole pan. You can get an aftermarket one, that is exactly the same as the Honda one in my opinion, for about $70 from eBay (including gasket).
Mind you though, I'm going through and replacing pretty much EVERYTHING on my lude anyway.
