Default Quick question Please look, Dont flame

Ok I have the money to do an engine upgrade/swap

My question is, what engine would you build b18c1 or b18b1
also are there any sites that i can go to where i can build a motor and get a price when im done? also do any of you have some decently built engines that would fit in my integra??

im looking for maybe 300whp or a little less, the car is not my daily driver, just looking for an engine that i can put in there that will be reliable yet enough to rape the guys on the Blvd.

thx all and if you want, my aim is rydin24inchdubz and my email is rydin24inchdubz5678@yahoo.com

Thx for looking

With the answer to that question the others will fall into place.

If you are going FI then most people will tell you to get a b18b since flow is a little better. My personal opinion would probably be to build a b18b and throw a b16 tranny on the end of it.

That is where a large debate shall insue. I'll let someone else go into it a little deeper since even I haven't decided on which route I wish to go.

I can't tell you what you should get, since its a very personal based opinionated question. If you look around the FI forum i'm sure you can find someone who has the setup you wish to build, and also you will find what parts work well, and what parts dont.

I can't tell you, as you need to experience it yourself. Many of the questions you asked have been answered countless times in the past, all you need to do is walk through the door of the search function and it will give you what you need to know.

Not the most help I know, but it is a start.

Wow. It sounds pretty much like you took into account what he's trying to do, then told him exactly the opposite of what would be good for him. If you really truly believe everything you just said, then please throw your computer out a window and don't come back here and post anymore, because you are administering VERY wrong advice.

1)Where the expletive did you read that the LS flows more air than any of the vtec variants? Becuase they do not, they don't even come close. It's public knowledge that one of the biggest downfalls of the b18b/b18a platform is the head, which does not flow very much air at all.

2)Why would you put a b16 tranny on a turbo car? Longer gears are ideal for a turbo application, allowing you more time to build boost/stay in boost.

So build a b18b, and use the tranny that came with the motor, if you're concerned about money. Replacements are had easily and cheaply in case something goes wrong and you blow it up. The GSR will make more power for the money, but they are harder to tune and more expensive to replace.

this is exactly opposite of the truth..there are threads upon threads about long/short gears for turbo..

but the answer is shorter gears are always yield better track times than longer gears... on any car, boosted or not..

longer gears will give lower highway cruising rpms and a higher top speed, but longer 1/4 mile times...

Really? I suppose I've never come across one of those. The majority of ones that I read end up something like this:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ? &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> Gear ratios are merely a way to trade torque for rpm. With a higher numerical gear ratio, you are putting more rpm at the wheel. With closer gear ratios, you are able to stay at a higher rpm in between shift points. Something like the LS transmissions are suited more towards the broad torque curve/low reving LS engine. It keeps you in the peak torque area in between shifts. The ITR/SI/GSR transmissions keep the rpm's built up in between shifts, to stay in the more peaky powerband.

Having said that, for the track the itr/si tranny is the best hands down. Most high whp turbo engines are operating between 5.5-9k, and having their shift points in between. In combination with a tall slick size (24.5"+), and the high shift point (8.5-9k), you are able to keep the engine operating within the optimum torque curve.

With the LS transmission, between shifts it would possibly drop you out of the optimal powerband and therefore make you slower. Gearing simply put allows you to stay in the powerband of your engine in between shifts.

The myth that you stay in gear longer with the LS transmission makes you faster is purely false. Think about that statement for a second. Acceleration is the measure of velocity over a unit time. Watching the rpms climb on the tach during a 3rd/4th gear pull, they would be climbing slower than with the si/itr tranny. Looking at the definition of acceleration as a measure of velocity over a unit time, the engine would be getting to the same velocity over a slower time lapse. This would yield slower acceleration, and simply put make you slower.

Having said that, the gsr transmission is probably the best balance of a street/strip transmission. The gearing is a little less aggressive as the itr/si transmissions, which will yield a little more traction. For all out acceleration si/itr tranny wins hands down. For a slower car, go with the LS transmission.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Apparently I stand corrected, this is some information I never knew.

And in reference to the head statement. Building a b18b block is different than keeping the b18b head on. My reference was for him to research his the setup of his dreams, and to go forth with that. Whether or not that is to keep the b18 head or to swap it for a b16 is his own decision.

Hence why I told him for the complete breakdown of parts, he should do some research.

Sounds like you want boost, 300WHP N/A would cost a LOT of money. Even then, you won't get 300WHP without a decent amount of work even with a boosted setup.

Define your goals (which you seem to have) and your budget, this will dictate the rest.

LSD is always a good thing, especially if your pushing some decent power. Also keep in mind that more power means things like upgraded clutch, brakes etc.

I would just get a b20 with a GSR trans. Then boost it on like 6-8 PSI. You'd prolly have between 200-240whp depending on how well you build the kit, and what turbo you use. My friend had a LS, with type R trans on 10 PSI, with a small t3 turbo. His **** was slow, he then upgraded the intercooler, and bought a t3/t4, and now on 6 PSI, it's way faster, so it depends on the quality of the kit, and the tune. But I'm going mildly built b20, with either LS, or GSR trans. I have a b16 with b16 trans now, and it's geared too low for my taste. I hate driving down the interstate at 4800 RPM. I also hate having to rev to 8000rpm to make power, that is why I'm going b20. But it's all up to you bro. It's all on what you want to do with your car.

I'm planning on doing my later this winter and putting the new motor and turbo into my car this summer. msg me on aim, i'm ALWAYS on.

what about making a ls/vtec ???? )your b18b block with a b16 head) does not cost much and you have about 190 hp.... and after you can continue to put some mods ...

if your gonna go boost dont get a VTEC Car.... My GSR could only handle up to 28lbs of boost... havent got anything higher than that yet because of the high compression and the VTEC.... if your not going to go boost an want a all motor just get yourself the b18c1 the GSR motor and build it up... you could probably hit around 260hp or so depending on what your gonna do...
