Default My Integra Progress Thread -= 56K read a book =-

Well, I have a lot of plans for the Integra over the next year or so, and things are moving along kinda quickly, so I figured I'd just make one thread to cover all the changes. I'll update it as the car progresses.

Car as I bought it back in September.

I purchased the car from a friend who was originally going to use it as his winter car. He had decided he wasn't going to go through with that so it quickly changed hands. When I purchased it, the idle was all messed up, there was a check engine light, it needed new pads and it had a hesitation at around 2750 RPM's. The week of purchase the brakes were fixed, the idle was fixed and the CEL was gone. Other than the hesitation the car was running quite well. The following week I replaced the plugs and wires and that took care of it. The car was running mint.

The ordering of parts began in early October. The suspension was the first thing to be done. The shocks were blown and I was riding the bumpstops over everything. Omnipower Lower Control Arms, Koni Yellow Adjustable Shocks and Ground Control coilovers were all ordered within a few weeks of eachother.

Meanwhile while this was waiting to all go in, I began to get a very bad vibration through the wheels. I thought it was my wheel bearing so I replaced the passenger side one. When the problem continued to occur, I decided to give the new wheels I had a try. Fixed the vibration. The OEM Acura wheels were shot to **** and extremely unbalanced.

The wheels are bronze Maxxim Oxygene's that I purchased from a friend awhile back.

Finally after recieving all the necessary suspension components, it was time to install everything. The first thing to go in was the front suspension. After a couple of hours of fighting with some stuff and trying to figure out how to assemble the new Koni / GC assembly, we got everything in. By the time the fronts were done I had to leave to pick up another new set of wheels that I had been looking for. While scouring VWVortex, I found a set of BBS RA's for $325 that a guy had on his Jetta. I met him down in Farmington, CT and was soon on my way home with my 3rd set of wheels in 3 months.

And today ( as you can tell in the previous picture ) I attacked the rear suspension. It's well known that the rear of a Honda / Acura is quite a PITA to get free. I'm having the worst luck with it as we speak. I've had to torch several bolts now and it's just creating more of a mess than it should be. After working on it all day I've only been able to get the passenger side completely free of everything.

And that's where it sits as of this very second. Tomorrow I hope to have the rear completely finished. If not by tomorrow, definately Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Hehe, I threw the warning up there.

At the very moment the plan is to get this rear suspension on before I lose my mind. It's such a pain in the ***. But after that comes :

Greddy SP2 catback
body work, paint
sways
and then finishing piecing together my turbo setup

so far it consists of a K26 turbo out of a Porsche, and well, that's about it. With Christmas coming up, I need to sock a little money away for presents for other people instead of me. The idea is to use a Lovefab manifold with adapter, DSM injectors, Uberdata, walbro fuel pump, JRC intercooler, yada yada yada.

Unfortunately where I had to torch the bolt where the LCA and trailing arm bolt together, I got a little overzealous and took a good chunk out of the trailing arm. A patch is being made to be welded in to add some strength back to the area.

if I could add some advise....you could have just used the torch, burned out the bushing and with a hacksaw and/or grinder you could have cut the bolt out inbetween the stock LCA's and the hub section.

From what I see you will now probobly need to replace the rear hub as it looks gone now.

I've had this problem many times before and it worked for us and not cutting/ruining the hub.

ride looks good so far tho

Thanks for the tips. I'll definately be using them on the driver side, that's for sure. I'm somewhat new to all of this, but isn't that part that i butchered up part of the trailing arm and not the hub ?

yes

sorry my bad, it's part of the trailing arm.
On the other side, take the tourch and heat up the bushing to burn it out, then you will have a bit more access to it then try to grind/hacksaw the bolt on both sides so that you can still keep the trailing arm in good condition.

let me know if you have any other problems/questions

In that case, do you think it's possible to go about temporarily strengthening that area back up by welding in a a piece that matched what i hacked up ? At least as a temporary fix until i can scrounge up a new trailing arm, like i had mentioned ?

yea you can try to fix it, I'd get somebody that's good with welding to just cut out a similar pattern and weld it on. You need to make sure the holes will be aligned properly or your control arm wont sit right

Thanks for the compliments guys. It's rubbing a little and I need to make adjustments tomorrow morning. I'll probably give it a good washing and do a photoshoot.
