Default New Accord Owner

Howdy,

I just purhcased a 2002 Accord LE with 70K. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but I have what I'm sure is going to be a tupid question, so please bear with me.

I've noticed that if I stop on an incline when the car is in D4, the car will roll downhill when I let off the brake. Can I assume this is NOT normal, or is this a Honda thing?

Thanks

Sounds normal to me. Don't all autos do that?

Absolutely Normal. It has to do with Idle Speed (RPM), the point that the Torque Converter starts engaging (RPM) and how steep the hill is. You can still hold it on a hill by feathering the throttle if you want (RPM).
Starting to notice the trend?
It all has to do with Honda's march towards better gas milage.

OK. Thanks very much. I can't recall any other automatic transmissions behaving like this, so I thought perhaps I had an issue.

How about this, then: Whenever the fan is on, and I press any other the vent control buttons (defroster, feet, etc), the A/C kicks on with it and I have to hit the A/C button to shut it off. That seems a little odd to me; is this normal as well??

Thanks again.

yes. it's natural for an automatic to sometimes roll back on an incline. i remember when i had my automatic i actually wanted to be on hills to have the effect of a manual. ohh how silly i once was.

when you have your car in the defrost mode or floor and defrost mode the a/c compressoer automatically kicks on. the reason for that is the a/c system dehumidify the air inside the car and it help keeps the windows from fogging up and promotes quick defrosting.

You may want to check into the transmission problems that are in the 01 and 02 Accords. They have faulty transmissions and yours is sure to go out. I'm stuck with a 2001 myself in need of a new transmission. Do a google searh for 2001 Honda Accord Faulty Transmission and you will be shocked to find out how many people are suffering.
