It would figure that, this would be the one we would get. I am not sure about that one. Is it a hatch or wagon?

Except we won't, so it's a moot point. But by god... that car is insanely ugly. I mean. it's approaching Aztec-ugly!

Are you kidding me? The American market isn't overly friendly towards hatchbacks in the first place and the abomination shown above is no less than one of the top five ugliest cars I've ever seen. I'm thinking that - just like all the other Type-R Civics - we will never see this model stateside and even in the off chance that we do, it won't sell for crap.

No, I'm not kidding. Certain hatches have had lots of success over the last 20 years: Civic hatches, Acura Integras, VW Golfs.
The recent runaway success of the new Scion 5-doors, the PT Cruiser and the Mazda MP5 show that the U.S. is ready for Euro-style hatches.
We're not as friendly toward hatches as, say, the European markets, but we're getting there fast with the rise of gas prices and the fall of SUVs. People who may have been thinking of a Jeep Liberty or Ford Escape are probably looking a little more closely at some of the 5-door models.
If that crazy Civic came to the States, and was priced competitively, I'd consider buying one and I'm sure many others would too. It might seem a little ugly until you go to Japan and Europe and see the hatches there. Ever seen a Renault Megane?

A recent Honda marketing project revealed that British buyers have a slight preference for coupes over hatches.
That does not mean that the niche market for hatches is not viable and profitable, however.
