Default HELP! confused, what should i buy?

hey guys im 19 and im having a hard time deciding what to buy....i was involed in a car accident that totaled 2 cars (my car and another), which they said was MY FAULT!!! (long story). i dont know how to drive standard but i want to learn if i decide to buy a standard car...anywayz it's between an 95 LS, 99 LS, 98 GSR and a 97 GSR.. both the LS are auto. the 95 is converted to 98-01 w/ bumpers, lights, seats and is in pretty good condition w/ 96k($5500). the 99 LS has 56k w/ rims and sounds and is in excellent cond. ($7500). The 98 gsr is fair...the interior is in good cond. but it needs bodywork and a new panitjob because of some dents and scatches, no mods what so ever w/ 100k, plus it needs the routine mantience like timing belt and etc...($7000). The 97 gsr is in great cond. clean in and out w/ some mods. intake, headers, sounds, rims, body kit and etc...w/ only 50K!!! but he's askin $8500. SORRY for the long post but any advice would be appricated. Would the insurence for the gsr be expensive?? this would be my daily driver if it helps..thx for looking...

Buy the 98 gsr. IMHO, I would never buy a car from someone that already fixed it up, unless you know the person. You never really know how bad they beat the car up.

I can't really give you a suggestion on which car to buy. You have to decide that based on your taste and what you can afford. Try to get one with low mileage, one that wasn't modified (beat on), and the newest one you can afford.

If you plan on modifying it at all, get the GSR because it's a 5-speed. If you want to have something to get from point A to point B, get the LS because it's auto. You can still modify it (after swapping it to a manual), but it will cost more.

As for the insurance, every company is different. My insurance company rates the GSR and the LS as the same. They are both categorized as a sports car and I was charged as such. They consider any 2 door coupe as a sports car, which my LS was.

7k for that 98 seems a bit high if it needs all that ..

"The 97 gsr is in great cond. clean in and out w/ some mods. intake, headers, sounds, rims, body kit and etc...w/ only 50K!!! but he's askin $8500"

sounds like the best outta the group , good miles mods you would wanna get anyways if your into the car ... try to get him to bring the cost down alittle and id say thats your best bet .. just my opinion from what ive learned when looking for my car

Good luck with getting your car and post up some pics when you get it

I am 19 also and i would go with the 50k mile gsr only because of the low mileage. Of course try to talk him down. the downside is that it is modded. Which means the owner probably beat the hell out of it.

But if you can get about 1500 off of the other gsr because it needs the maitenance, then i would get that. It has 100k but never had the tb, wp and other things changed...think about how the owner has kept up with the oil changes, and other fluid changes. I think this owner neglected the cars maitenance and you wont get the life out of it that you expect to get.

Its all up to u. Insurance shouldnt be more than a 20 dollar a month difference.

ALSO u need to know that gsr's take PREMIUM gas. So think about that in making ur decision.

I have a gsr and love it.

great advice guys......now im kinda leaning towards the gsr. How much would i offer the 98 gsr (fair condition) w/ 100k? and how low should I offer the 97 gsr (slightly modded and in excellent cond.) w/ 50k? more suggestions welcome but no negative ones plz.

test drive all the cars and then go home a kbb each one. Takes notes on each car: how it drives, condition, brakes, tred left.

Search google to find checklists that help prevent from buying a lemon.

Then give the Kelly Blue Book value to he owner and tell this is what i am going to pay you...not a cent more.

the 97 ... forget the 98 from what ive read i wouldnt go with the 98 just go with the 97 and be happy u didnt get a fixer uper and end up dumping more and more into it .. i got my 98 118k miles in Great shape for 7.3k and no maitenance needed , and just cuz the car has mods does NOT mean it was beat badly , i know ppl that have cars all moded and they dont beat them .. they dont wanna ruinin what they've built , and just cuz its being sold doesnt mean they beat it , test drive it feel the clutch see how u think it was ran and decide yourself what feels best to you.. its all about what you want , dont settle just cuz you want your car now or else everyone says to just go LS and turbo .. do what you think is right for you and your money .. goodluck bro

thx bro for your opinion, but i dont know yet. the 98 gsr is the only owner, but it has 100k miles on it and it has couple dents and scatches. If he goes a low as $5500-$6000, should i take it and is it a good deal? I just found out the 97 gsr w/ 50k use to be turboed w/ stock cams( is that good?), then he took it off and changed it back to all motor. plus he said he was the 3 owner. which is better? or should i wait for a better deal?

You have to be patient buying a car man. Just don't jump on the first thing you see (not saying you are). But take a step back, you know that the owner of the 97 gsr did all that stuff to it and took it off. Imagine all the stress he put on the motor and how much racing he must have done considering that it was turbo. The 98 has dents and scratches but the most important piece of a car is the motor. Dents and scratches are minor things compared to a motor that you know is beat.

Then again, it's just my opinion. Good luck!

Exactly, now that we know it had a turbo on it, definitley a no-no now. You dont know how much boost he was runnin either which could mean very bad things for that motor in the future.

Just wait it out until you are sure it is the car you want. I remember when i bought my teg 2 years ago. Me and my dad drove up to the guys house and saw what amazing condition it was in. I knew i was going to spend ALL my hard earned money for it.

A different car could come on the market a week after you bought urs that had lower mileage, less owners, and in better shape for a cheaper price. Just make sure the one you buy is without a doubt the one you want.

After 2 years with mine, ive found out that the car was repainted, now motor is ticking like a sob, abs is now f*&^ked up. It is almost impossible to tell what trouble, if any, the car will bring you. I love my car still through all the problems. I am going to rebuild the head soon to hopefully get rid of the ticking noise (sounds like a diesel when really cold)

then again, would you rather risk buying a car that has a good chance of it being pushed or one from a person that never hit red line?

thx man for the advice....been waiting for several months now and it SUCKS! can't find any integra's that I REALLY LIKE! i guess i should hold out a little more because the 98 gsr got sold for $6k. I was pissed when it got sold but then again i would be paying like $7-8k just to make it stock again.

Get a gsr will benefit in the long run, Integra isn't a bad choice.

If you're really stuck on getting GSR, just wait. You should think about just getting an LS and slapping a turbo on it. You'll be saving a couple grand by getting the LS and use it towards forced induction. You'll be smoking GSRs!

That's not the company.

That's the legislature of this pisshole state taking kickbacks from insurance brokers for passing laws that identify all 2 door coupes as sports cars.

sigh.
