Default timing... advance or RETARDED (me).

Just want to make sure before I go doing it.... does retarding your timing lessen your chace of detinating? Or is it the other way around?

Thanks!

yeah, if u got ur engine knocking then retard it.
but it'll reduce the porfomance if it. as far as this ,i've found that 32 degree (at total timing advance by vacum) give the best peak Hp

cool, thanks for the info. I would rather temporaraly retard the timing and not kill my engine then worry about the power for now!

Thanks again!

on a JDM B16A on the crank pully there are 3 little spots that are close together that you point the timing light at - what do they mean?

i have been *assuming* that the one in the middle is 16' BTDC and the one closest to the rear is 14' BTDC and the one furtherest to the front is 18' BTDC...

is this true?

i have also assumed that 18' BTDC is advanced.

is this true?

i have used this method to "advance" my static timing for more NA power...
