I have a US typer block and the piston rings are fried, I've found a site called goodson.com and would like to know what's your opinion on their honing kits? Which one do I get? I just want to clean up the cylinder walls without stripping the entire block.
I also would like to run the stock rods, but run a little higher compression, how can I accomplish this? Please recommend a piston. Or if it's possible to order the pistons and rods already assembled.
I am new to building motors, and have absolutely no money to have it built, I have done simple things like install stock valves, and valve springs, and have been reading up on plastigauge, but would like to keep the build as cost effective as possible, so stock rods and bearing codes would apply to keep it simple.
This is for a street car, and I'm gonna run a stock ctr head, with the possibility of getting a mild cam later.
If you've read this far Thanks for bearing with me
Any and all comments welcome

Have the block professionally machined. Go to 81.25mm on the bore and use new OEM pistons and rings. Or you could go 81.5mm and use Topline pistons for about $130. You could try to get by with new rings on your old pistons and just hone the block, but chances are you will regret it later.

I'm trying to cut costs as much as possible, so if it's within reach to hone it myself I would like to, the cylinder walls look ok so just needs a quick hone. The only things I want to change would be the pistons, rings, and a big maybe to rods (I prefer oem parts). You know of any other place that might carry a hone "kit"?
TIA
