Default Swapping Valves - Do I need to redo the head's valve job?

I have a B16 head with a street competition stage done by Joe Alaniz. It has a full Skink2 valve train and Type r valves. I'm switching over to a Rocket valve train and m22xx cams and I wanted to install a set of Supertech flat faced valves which are the ones Omniman used in his 200hp B16 build.

My question is if I have to have the valve seats re-done with the new valves?

Thanks!

I might be a Noob on this site, but I've rebuilt many a cyclinder head. YES, regrind or replace the valve seats.

You can lap the valves in with fine lapping compound. If they lap in good then you good to go.If not I would set it back to Alaniz for the seats to be cut.The valve job is an important part of the port job.

Can you please explain what the lapping process is? I've read about it being done but don't understand what it actually is. Thanks!

Not to hijack the thread, but what if you just replacing with the same oem valves? Do you still need to have a head valve job?

You know what? I'm not going to swap my valves for the flat faced ones because the bump in compression for this alone is not worth it.

Thanks for all the replies

any time you replace valves you should grind them. lapping can get the same thing done, but it's like comparing a garage hone to .020 over to professional boring.

I would rather be safe then sorry, I would suggest a valvejob done and get the valves faced and have Alaniz or one of the other head shops on here to make sure you at least keep the same quality.
