Depends on how many miles you have on it. If its still under warranty, it may be free...the SS trannys had a recall on them. If its not under warranty, you're looking at anywhere from 2-4k most likely from a dealer.

Convert it to manual. You'll spend half the price on parts, depends on who you go to for the labor on how much you'll save there.

I have done a couple of auto to manual conversions in your platform. The reliability is that of stock... if the conversion is done properly. Preformance is increased considerably since the Auto tranny uses up more HP. Also, the ability to ditch obd2 and convert to obd1 itself will yeild more power by itself.

On ebay, the manual trannies are more expensive than the auto trannies, since they are in greater demand.

If you buy a used auto on ebay, and install it yourself, you should be able to do it for under a grand. If you can't do it yourself, or know anyone who can help you........well, you're gonna be a little broke!

if u replace the tranny, on the prelude, i suggest u do a mannual conversion, because the price is about the same, mannual tranny i believe its cheaper, and do it properly ur car will do much better, i did the same thing on my h22 . swaped a mannual after the tranny is messed up. conversion and tranny u looking about 2k around.

i had to same problem on my 99 prelude.. the auto tranny did the same exact thing and i finally couldn't take it anymore. so i did a manual swap. i got all the parts from a local junkyard and some from honda and get everything for about $800-900.

If not covered by warranty, it'll cost 3K+ from the dealer to replace. Mixed opinions on getting it rebuilt(and almost as expensive). Honda just replaces the whole thing. I have a 12k replacement w/ paper work if you're interested.
