Default thermostat or ECT

Ok heres the rundown...

Just finished my Ls swap in my hatch. motor swap was obd2 but i kept my car obd1 if it matters. ok heres the situation...

Last night i finish the swap and im lettin the car warm up as i clean up. Take her for a little spin and the temp gauage never moves(between the warm up and drivin it was about 20-25 min). The top rad. hose was really hot and the bottom(return) hose for the rad was cold there was nothing flowing threw it. I turned on the heater in the car and then felt all the cooling hoses. all of them were hot except for the long return line. I know this bottom hose doesnt get hot like the others but i kno its supposed to be at least warm. There was nothing going through the hose at all. my guess and hope is the thermostat which i just bought and ill do tomorrow but i was wondering why my guage wouldnt work. Knowing my luck its the sensor. but lemme know wat u think.
Thanks

if you have a multi meter , using ohms setting looks like an omega symbol. put you red lead to the sensor and black lead to your block. if it reads ouch or no resistance your sensor is bad

if theres two wires one spower and guessing ones sending. you wan to check the power wire. makes sure all other wires to the therm are disc. you have to complete the circuit power--to ground
